Get To Know The Couple

The First Date

Persistence is why you are reading this today. From what I (Macy) can recall, I asked Seth on about 4 dates before he finally said yes. But when he finally said yes was the day before he left for school at UW Madison, and I was leaving to go live in Utah for the year.

Now the boy is supposed to drive around the girl right? Well, that did not happen. Right before we hung out, Seth said his car stopped working and he couldn't pick me up. I wasn't sure if this was an excuse or if he was being honest, so I was persistent and said I would drive. The day was spent playing with Grayson, Seth's nephew, packing for college, and getting Panda, which I did not know at the time was his absolute favorite fast-food place.

When we showed up to his house after driving to our destinations, I think I was supposed to leave, but I invited myself inside. Seth was kind of making the excuse that he had to pack and that I wouldn't want to help, but I was again persistent and told him I didn't have anything else to do. So we packed all of his clothes, in which I made fun of them the whole time because Seth had no style before we started dating. I'm just being honest!

After the day part of our date, we planned on going swimming with friends, but that plan got thrown awire because of a softball game, no surprise there. After the softball game, everyone came to my house to watch a movie. I started to panic when the movie was done because I didn't want Seth to leave, but the only movie that was free after that was Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. I hate that movie, I despise it. But to get Seth to stay, I said we should watch it.

For the next 6 months, we probably FaceTimed each other once a day and learned a lot about each other. Seth learned that I do not use my phone and that my response time has nothing to do with whether I liked him or not. I learned how devoted and thoughtful Seth was, even from across the country.

What do you most admire about each other?

Macy: The thing that I most admire about Seth is his selflessness and his ability to put everyone else above himself in all situations. His heart is motivated by putting others first and making sure they are happy. Sometimes it's easy to think of what will benefit us in the moment, but I have learned from Seth what it is like to sacrifice and evaluate the needs of those around me.

Seth: Macy's work ethic is something that has and continues to blow me away. Whether it be with working out, her job, reading her Bible, staying with a diet, etc... she is extremely good at sticking with her goals/plans and never wavering from them. She is very motivated and will always give 100% in whatever she is doing. Her attitude towards life each and every day inspires me.

A MEMORABLE TIME

Macy: A day that I will always remember is from my second year of college, which was my first year of actually living in Minnesota. It was the first weekend that both of my roommates were gone and I hadn't quite found a group of friends yet. I was at the gym around noon on a Friday and wasn't sure what I was going to do. I didn't have a car and I was starting to get a little sad because I felt so out of place and alone. Seth was heading home that weekend from Madison, so that made it even worse. I had called him and he could tell that I was upset - by the end of the call, Seth decided that he was going to come pick me up and I needed to be ready in 4 hours. He drove from Madison to Minneapolis to get me and drove us 3 hours back home, when he could have just drove 2 hours to get home. This is what I mean by selfless and caring for others. He knew that I was sad, and he knew that it was an inconvenient drive, but he did it anyway.

Seth: This was really hard to choose just one day/event, but one of my most memorable times with Macy was one of our first trips together. We took a long weekend and did a road trip up to Mackinac Island. Due to the limited time and long drive there, we had only planned to be on the actual island for one day. The first half of the day was great, but once the afternoon came, the island got a massive rainstorm. It absolutely down-poured for about 30-45 minutes. When the rain started, we weren't really by any buildings, so we had to hide under a tree with some other tourists. Needless to say, we still got absolutely soaked as the rain was relentless. In that moment, all we could do was laugh at how hard it was raining and how we were completely drenched from head to toe (it honestly felt like a scene out of a movie). Although our clothes were soaked, we still had fun the rest of the day and made the most of the opportunity we had on the island. I will always remember this day because it showed me that I will enjoy moments with Macy no matter the circumstances, as she brings so much joy into my life.

THE PROPOSAL

In May of 2023, Macy was away on a mission trip, which is when I (Seth) had planned to ask Todd and Amy (Macy's parents) for their blessing to marry her. After our conversation, I shared my proposal plan with them. The only potential issue now was if Todd could keep it a secret all summer...

Fast forward to Labor Day Weekend when both sets of parents and siblings got together with Macy and I in Door County (the location of our first trip together). The plan was to go out for a nice dinner and then after the meal, Bekah (Seth's sister) would take pictures of everyone at the beach. The catch was that the parents were going to claim they didn't want to go to the beach and wanted to relax back at the hotel. This would allow for the parents to break away from the group and go set up the proposal on top of Kress Pavilion.

Everything was going according to plan until the parents took a little longer than expected to set up the proposal area. This lead to me having to fake a stomach ache and sit in the bathroom at the beach for a good 10-15 minutes. After I finally got the good to go from the parents, I left the bathroom and Landon (Macy's brother) started driving us to the Kress Pavilion, as we told Macy that the parents found a nice spot close to the hotel to watch the sunset.

At this point, once the group arrived at the Pavilion, Bekah was to say she needed to be dropped off at the front to use the bathroom. This was to be done so she could run up the stairs and be ready to take pictures of the proposal. Macy threw a wrench into things by saying she also had to go to the bathroom when we got to the Pavilion! The plan now had to change instantly, so Landon whipped a U-Turn and took the girls to the grocery store nearby to go to the bathroom. Meanwhile, Landon and I discussed in the car that I would forget my phone in the car when we got to the Pavilion, that way everyone else could walk ahead and get up to the top before Macy and I.

After arriving at the Pavilion, the plan was almost complete. I said I forgot my phone in the car and turned back to get it and asked Macy to come with me. I was so nervous that I tried opening the wrong car, multiple times. Finally, after Macy was laughing at me, I realized I was at the wrong car and sheepishly walked over to the right one to grab my phone. Macy and I then walked up to the top of the Pavilion where I proposed to Macy with both of our families up their waiting for us with lights, flowers, and champagne!
