ARRIVING

St. John is a small island in the Caribbean. It is part of the US Virgin Islands. It does not have its own airport so you will fly into St. Thomas (STT) and take a short ferry over to St. John.

Upon landing in St. Thomas and retrieving luggage, proceed to the taxi stand located just outside of the airport. Ask for a taxi to Red Hook for the St. John Ferry. They will often fill a 12-passenger van and charge ~$25 per person. The ride is roughly 30 minutes depending on traffic.

Once you reach Red Hook and the St. John Ferry Terminal, proceed to the ticket counter to purchase your tickets for the next ferry to Cruz Bay. A one-way fare is $8.15 per person and $4 per larger bag. The ferry ride takes ~20 minutes. Ferries currently depart every hour 8:00 am - 12:00 am. You can also book ferry tickets ahead of time:

Taxis are readily available once you've arrived in Cruz Bay but we recommend confirming with your accommodation host directly to better understand what they offer in terms of transportation and the proper check-in procedure. Note that many accommodation hosts will ask for your arrival time information.

If you prefer a more private experience, you can arrange airport-to-hotel transportation, including a private taxi, a luxury car or SUV, and private water transport. Cost varies:

Private Land Taxi to Red Hook $95-$125

*Please note that if you are arriving late into St. Thomas you will need to spend the night in St. Thomas as there is no way to get to St. John until the next morning when ferries resume service.

TRAVEL DOCUMENTS

You may travel with your US Driver’s License, Passport or US Government issued ID. You will need your passport if you plan on traveling to the British Virgin Islands from the US Virgin Islands.

If you are renting a villa or condo (not including Gallows Point as they provide their own provisioning service) and would like your kitchen to be stocked before arrival, the following companies can have groceries and / or prepared food delivered upon your arrival. GETTING AROUND

Taxis are readily available around St. John and have a hub right by the Cruz Bay Ferry Dock. If you want to pre-book anything, we recommend Piper and Chico:

If you want to go on day explorations to the sugar mill ruins or hikes, you may want to rent a car. We recommend L&L Jeep Rental because they offer parking conveniently located in downtown Cruz Bay.
