James and Maddie both attended Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff, AZ. They both have a passion for hockey - James playing it and Maddie watching it. Meeting through mutual friends on the hockey team, James and Maddie developed a close connection. Maddie graduated college in 2013 and took a job in Phoenix, AZ. Occasionally making trips up to Flagstaff, Maddie would visit her friends and of course, see James. James graduated college in 2015 and they were finally in the same city again - Phoenix, AZ. After a few dates the two decided to make their relationship official. Exactly three years later, James proposed to Maddie at sunset on her hometown beach in San Diego, CA celebrating with family and friends.
