Dustin and I met in early January 2023, two years ago and knew almost right away that we were meant for each other. Dustin is a Heavy Crane operator who enjoys fishing, camping and outdoor pursuits. I,Maddison, a Clinic Assistant at the Allan Blair Cancer Centre enjoy quieter pursuits like reading, gardening and caring for animals, especially my fur baby, a three legged Bull Mastiff named Kevin. Together, Dustin and I have enjoyed many days on the water in Dustin’s boat catching both fish and a terrible sunburn that I caught before Dustin realized how truly Lilly-white his new Cree girlfriend’s skin was!

Dustin and I have both experienced life and took our time waiting for the right one to come along. We looked for and valued deeper qualities in potential partners and when we found each other it took no time for us to recognize that we had found the one we wanted to build a lifetime relationship with. The saying goes that if your relationship can survive a home renovation together, it can survive anything. If that is true, then Dustin and I are on the right path as we are currently renovating the home Dustin owns in Regina and which will become our first home together.

Although Dustin wanted to invite all his relatives and friends to “show off” his new bride and celebrate our wedding in a big way, my shy nature won out. We will be having an intimate wedding with immediate family only in the backyard of the home I loved growing up in, on Kahkewistahaw First Nation, looking out on Round Lake. We are excited to share with our friends and family while we commit our lives to each other on June 7, 2025.
