Our Wedding

Ceremony

Our story began summer of 2014. We met at a cabin with a group of friends. Jake and I apparently had a lot of mutual friends. We went to the same high school, and even both played soccer, but did not really know each other. (probably worked out for the best...) We were both going to school at St. Cloud State that fall of 2014. We had a lot of the same friends going into college and saw each other often. Jake and I basically hit it off from the start and were together but not “official” for those first few months. Jake would confess his feelings to one of my best friends and told her not to tell me anything. But she would right away anyways. I was falling for him and the butterflies continued to grow.     January, 1st 2015 at 12:00 am we decided to “Make it official (FINALLY..) My friend had been saying for months prior that he was officially going to ask me to be his girlfriend...We continued dating and both moved back home after 2 years. Our parents live only a few blocks from each other! We basically grew up down the road and had no idea! (What a small world!!) That made it easier to see each other. We talked about our future together and buying a house. Over those few years of being at home we both grew so much individually and together.      Fast Forward to October 12th, 2019. Jake and I were in Duluth that weekend with family visiting my younger brother at school, and visiting my friends. It was a last minute decision for us. Jake made dinner reservations on Saturday night. He told me a few days before but I didn’t think anything of it. We were with our friends most of the day on Saturday. The afternoon came around and Jake had made the dinner reservations for 5:00. I couldn’t believe how early he made the reservations but I agreed even though I didn’t want to leave my friends and wasn’t even hungry. (Who eats dinner at 5 anyway I thought) We got to the restaurant that overlooked Lake Superior, It was a charming little Italian restaurant. After dinner he insisted we drive back to the boardwalk and go for a walk. I had little say and just went with it. It was starting to rain a little bit and get cold. I was complaining the whole time and kept saying we can walk tomorrow and how it was so cold. I was being very stubborn and pouting the entire walk. (Now that I think about it I will never forget this story, and how funny it is looking back) I made a joke about him better having something in his pocket. But truly didn’t think much of it. I was just saying anything and talking smack like I typically do when I have my “sassy pants on“ We got to the pier and Jake was looking around and back behind him. I was getting suspicious, but honestly to cold to care. He kept saying “a little further“ and before I knew it he was on his knee. Emotions and tears started and I said YES. He had planned to have 2 of my best friends close by to capture pictures of the moment. We got to celebrate with Family and Friends the rest of the weekend! What a blessing that was! I was so surprised and couldn’t believe it finally happened! I couldn’t wait to Marry this man. That was a weekend we both would never forget.    If you made it through reading this, we can‘t wait to celebrate with Friends and Family despite whatever obstacles might be thrown our way during these unprecedented times.     Love, Maddy and Jake
