Our Story

Picture of Our Story

By the time our wedding rolls around, we will have been together for just under six years which is hard to believe because it feels like it was just yesterday that this all started. Our story has the most innocent of beginnings. We were buddies trying to set each other up with other people. As our friendship progressed, so did our admiration and respect for one another. Our relationship seemed to transform into a romantic one seamlessly.

Our relationship started with several years of long-distance phone calls and text messages. We’ve spent countless hours in the car, road-tripping across the country, been to several breathtaking locations on those trips, and have enough memories to fill more than our lifetimes. In between those trips, Kenny made his way back to Pratt to coach at Pratt Community College. Later that year, Maddy was also able to make it back to Pratt after graduating from Washburn University. After a couple of months of being back in Pratt, we were able to purchase our first home where we currently reside with our fur baby Nala!

It was never a question of if we would get married, just when. "Well, I (Kenny) finally came to my senses and realized it was time to propose! New Orleans is our favorite city and I had planned a trip shortly after Maddy’s birthday for us down there. " The night prior to us leaving, Kenny still didn’t have the ring yet and was starting to panic just a little. He was out recruiting at a basketball tournament when the call came in saying that the ring had arrived. His wonderful mom picked it up and drove it to Wichita just in time for us to leave the next morning.

Anyone who knows Kenny knows that he is not exactly the planning type. So, Maddy knew that something was up when he had mentioned doing a special dinner more than one time. We are also frugal travelers, and our dinner plans were more expensive than our usual arrangements. We went on a riverboat cruise down the Mississippi River for dinner and live music where we had the most wonderful evening of playful conversation. Maddy remembers thinking to herself that that had been the best evening we had ever had together. Little did she know that it was about to get even better. So, after we left the boat, we were walking near Jackson Square where they had their annual Christmas tree set up. This is where Kenny popped the biggest question of his life. To nobody’s surprise, Maddy said yes!

We can’t wait to spend forever together filled with basketball, traveling, and doggies! So many memories have been and have yet to be made.
