Free admission - 2 full floors of the former Woolworth store contain works from dozens of local artists. Something for everyone here as well as the original soda fountain and diner.
The district spans many blocks. You will need a car. Once parked, look for the free trolley to take you around to the different locations. There is a pedestrian/cycling/dog walking park across Riverside Drive from the District which follows the French Broad River and is quite lovely as well.
At the top of a mountain just off I240, exit 8, sits this fun brewery. (Also in the building is a distillery which does tours.)
There is generally a live band playing Thurs-Sat. nights. The brewery has indoor, outdoor patio and lawn seating. At the dinner hour, you will also find food trucks outside.
