Our Wedding

A First Date in Five Stops

Picture this, late summer 2019...Mads had been treading the dreadful waters of the New York City dating pool for a few months and Han was freshly out of a relationship when we met on Tinder. Our first date began at the bar The Wren. Han had been circling the block for 15 minutes wanting to be on time, not too early holding a large copy of The Satanic Verses, that he spied for a buck at a used bookshop during his perambulations. Oh my! Mads was a vision in a black floral dress she wore on all first dates. We got cocktails at the bar, Mads something gin, Han something whiskey. Conversation flowed easily and after an hour or so we wandered into the warm dusky night. Han- ever hungry suggested we grab a quick bite at Vanessa’s Dumpling in Chinatown, followed by ice cream (of course.) We then sauntered over the Williamsburg bridge to Maracuja then to our last stop at the skee ball bar. We talked effortlessly and exchanged glances and light touches. Our last stop was a goodnight kiss- one full of passion and promise under the elevated tracks of the J train.

Lockin' It Down

Our early dating period was marked with fun, passion and a bit of drama. We came together only to separate before getting back together at the start of the new year. We navigated our new romance more deftly now when March of 2020 came around. The COVID19 virus reached New York City and decided to play house in lock down, after all it would only be two weeks. Mads moved into Han’s Harlem apartment. Despite the darkness of the world, our love blossomed in those early months of COVID. We made meals together and pillow forts. Managed our boredom in art projects and Bathtub spa days and comforted each other through the heartbreak and hardships of a world slowed to a standstill. As summer rolled around, we travelled to Colorado in full PPE gear to stay near Madeline’s family for much of the summer. We followed meeting her family with meeting Han's in Utah and contemplated what was next.&nbsp;

Things Are Getting Serious

Though we had only been together less than a year, both of us realized we had found something undeniable: A Love that could sustain us. After a week of looking we signed the lease on our apartment in Greenpoint Brooklyn in an old pre-war with its carved cornice bearing the superscript John Ottati 1900. Life together has had its share of ups and downs, job changes, covid madness, back injuries. We welcomed Misty, our queenly cat in 2022 with joy. We have grown together as a couple, traveling the world, creating art and laughing. Han finally proposed at the beginning of the Summer of 2024, throwing a “prom party” that was secretly a 2 hour roast of Madeline before popping the question. Madeline proposed back to Han later with a whiskey and tickets to Farm Aid to see his hero Willie Nelson. As we continue on our journey together through love and life, we feel truly lucky to have found each other and each of you. Thank you for celebrating our love and life with us.

Embrace color, texture, patterns, and personal creativity. Non-traditional choices are encouraged, just keep it elevated in the cocktail-to-formal range of cuts. Leave your business casual and dark suits, navys, greys, and blacks, in your luggage and party with us in the bright, warm weather of Mexico city. Temperatures will be in the 70s and springy. We want to create a festive, expressive atmosphere with elevated destination vibes. It’s a big yes to accessories, pearls, chains, other necklaces, bolo ties, pussy bows, shirts in prints, linen suits, exciting shoes, mesh, sheer, shine, hats, fascinators,&nbsp;bow ties, sun glasses, and more are all welcome. We can't wait to see you looks!

The weather will be in the 70s and springy. We want to create a festive, expressive atmosphere with elevated destination vibes. If you have any questions just reach out! We know this is not the typical dress code, but above all, have fun.

Where can I find a colorful suit? 

Nordstrom Rack, Asos, Bonobos, and Men's Wearhouse offer great options. Thrift stores are also a great way to find something unique and sustainable.

Dress Code

We will not have a hotel block but encourage everyone to stay in or near Condesa where we will provide transportation to and from the venue. Neighborhoods to stay in: Condesa, Roma, Roma Norte, Roma Sur. All of these are close to each other, beautiful and safe. Airbnb can be as low as $50 a night if you book in advance.
