Maddie and Sam met online through a Christian dating app. They met around the middle of the summer, and spent the rest of the summer and about a month into the school year talking on the phone every night and getting to know each other. In September, Sam came to see Maddie for the first time. He had planned to come to see her that weekend, and asked Maddie if she had any plans. Maddie knew in her head that she had her friend Anna's engagement party to make an appearance at, but she still really wanted to see Sam, so she asked him that week if he would go with her to the party. Sam picked Maddie up, and they went to Rosa’s for their first date before going to the engagement party. Maddie knew her parents were going to be at the party, but she didn’t want to tell Sam this earlier in the week and stress him out, so she nonchalantly brought it up in the car on the way to the party. Sam had little to no time to worry about first impressions because waiting for him directly on the other side of the door were Maddie’s parents greeting people at the door. After the party, Maddie and Sam went to get ice cream (Maddie’s favorite sweet treat) and talked for hours. The next day consisted of their first coffee date at Kindred, with a lot more conversation that day. Many more coffee dates, FaceTime dates, and short weekend trips have happened since then, as this one weekend in September led Maddie and Sam to be inseparable and took them down a journey that they both knew was bound to never end. On February 16th, Sam asked Maddie to marry him in Broken Bow, Oklahoma, surrounded by their families. Every step of this journey, Maddie and Sam have been able to clearly see the Lord’s hand in everything. It started with God bringing them together in the unlikeliest of ways, and has taken them on a journey of long distance dating that the Lord carried them through. What started as a simple and fun weekend in September, led to falling in love faster than either of them ever knew possible because it was evident to both of them that God had perfectly made them for each other.
