Our love story began 2 generations ago. You see, our families have been close our whole lives but we didn't connect until February of 2026! Over 50 years ago, our grandparents became neighbors on a quaint road in the city of Oxford, Ga. My dad grew up on the other side of the road from his dad and they became best friends. Their friendship continued over the years causing our families to cross paths occasionally. Little did I know my forever was so close!
In the beginning of 2026 I began to notice this handsome man, I wanted to talk to him but I wouldn't dare make the first move. A few weeks later, I was busy fixing "princess hair" at my niece's birthday party when my sister-in-law Katie ran up and whispered in my ear "Josh Kitchens is here!" I thought I would just melt & couldn't finish fast enough to make my way to where he was! Once we found each other we started talking, and while I was trying to play it cool, I was ready to burst with excitement! He offered to drive me to another event that same evening, so OF COURSE I said yes!
That evening went so well that 1 week later Josh took me out on our first date: bowling and dinner (let the record show I won a round of bowling). The whole night was perfect! Josh made reservations at the restaurant, didn't let me touch a single door handle, kept the conversation going, and made me feel like I was living in a dream! He impressed me so much, I couldn't stop smiling when he dropped me off and am still smiling today!
In the weeks following, we both spent time in prayer and realized we had finally found our forever! We still weren't going by the titles of 'boyfriend & girlfriend' yet. Though I was fine accepting those titles and continuing to date the love of my life, that wasn't good enough for Josh. He kept telling me he had to make it special!
One night when he was walking me back to the car after another sweet date, he opened my door to reveal that he prepared a sign with the words "Will you be my girlfriend?" handwritten on it, paired with a few of my favorite things and memoirs of our first date! I very excitedly said yes and knew one day I'd say yes to being his wife!
Since then, Josh has planned every date with just as much intention as the first! He proved that by planning our proposal with such care & attention to detail. He chose to propose at my grandparent's house, which is one of the most beautiful places I know and is stacked with precious memories from my life!
While I spent the afternoon out on the square with my Gran-Gran, Josh assembled a team of our loved ones to set up the proposal and engagement party! So when we pulled back up the driveway, I found my Nana's garden decorated beautifully and the love of my life waiting for me!
I was shaking with excitement when this man that I had come to know and love dropped down to one knee and asked me to marry him! That was the easiest 'yes' I've ever said and every day that passes is one day closer to becoming Mrs. Joshua Kitchens!
