WHERE IT ALL STARTED

Their story began on November 26, 2018 at a cookout with mutual friends, Lissa Ortego and Anthony Mullins. Madelynn worked for Lissa throughout high school and into her college years at Lissa's art studio in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. John Polk grew up with Anthony Mullins and while in school at Southern Miss, lived around the corner from Anthony and Lissa's neighborhood. Little did they know that these mutual friends would be the ultimate puzzle piece for them to meet! One day after work, Lissa convinced Madelynn to join them for a cookout and mentioned that there was someone special that she wanted her to meet. Madelynn agreed to go, and met John Polk for the very first time! The evening was spent talking about their interests, life goals, and all of their future plans. As the night came to an end, John Polk mentioned to Madelynn that he would be graduating and leaving Hattiesburg in the next couple of weeks and would be heading back to Jackson, MS to start medical school at UMMC. Madelynn still had two more years at Southern Miss, so she was convinced that there was no way this was going to work with them having so little time together in the same city! Little did she know the Lord had bigger, better plans ahead. The two started dating shortly after and did long distance for two and a half years. After Madelynn graduated from Southern Miss in May 2021, she received a job offer at her dream job in Jackson, allowing her to move closer to John Polk. Madelynn knew that God was persistently showing his faithfulness throughout the relationship and that John Polk was the one He was calling her to be with. Six months later John Polk proposed and the rest is history!
