I’m marrying my stalker…. Let me explain. During my whirlwind of a year as Miss North Carolina USA 2021, some “hot shot veterinarian” sent me a message on Instagram asking to take me to get drinks with him. As someone who didn’t drink, was in a relationship at the time, and OVER creepy men sending me messages to social media- the message frustrated me. So, I didn’t respond. Fast forward a few months, life looked completely different: I was single, no longer Miss NC, and willing to go on some first dates again. Joe, with his undying persistence, found me on a dating app and swiped right on a picture… OF MY DOG! Most guys would send a message or like a picture of me, but it was clear that Joe only liked Brewski so, I blocked him. A few weeks later, I found myself at the end of a streak of being ‘stood-up’ on dates (nothing will humble more than that). Like clockwork, Joseph sent me ANOTHER message on Instagram. I waited a few hours to open it before a few gals at work said, “if he’s willing to try this hard to take you on a date- imagine how hard he would work to keep you happy as his girlfriend.” So, reluctantly, I accepted his invitation to meet for dinner & we met the next week at one of my favorite restaurants. Our first date was incredible. Joe was charming, sweet, intriguing, goofy, and a complete gentleman. Before we knew it, the waitress was informing us that the restaurant had closed and she nudging us toward the door. We both weren’t ready to leave yet (even though we both had to work in the morning) so Joe said, “wait! I have to show you my fun socks before you leave!” and he sat down on a bench outside the restaurant. I took that excuse and ran with it- we sat on that bench for over an hour enjoying each others company before he mentioned that we both probably needed to go home and take care of our doggos. That night I drove home with a smile on my face knowing I had just met the man that I had prayed for my whole life. As fate would have it, the next morning I send my sisters a text saying, “Im pretty sure I just went on a date with my future husband. I cant shake the feeling in my gut that be a going to be around forever and its terrifying and exciting all at the same time.” Our relationship would be solidified two weeks later when my sweet rescue pup, Brewski, became deathly ill while I was at work. In a panic, I called Joe and he rushed over to my apartment. He took one look at Brew, said, “you’re a nurse- you know this isn’t good…”, scooped him up, and walked out of the door holding my limp dog. He called me later that night and asked me to think of my budget for Brews medical care. After talking with my mom, crying for hours, and working half a shift the next day- I finally got a call from Joe to update me on Brewboys health. I offered every penny I owned, but also reminded him that I couldnt date someone who killed my dog. Brewski had a long road to recovery, but that meant Joe and I were forced to spend more time together. Watching him care for my puppy as if Brew were his own absolutely won my heart over. From the day Brewski was discharged from Denver Animal Emergency, we have been Joes #1 fans! Joe and I have taken every opportunity to learn more about one another. We have stood strong in our relationship through some of life’s toughest challenges. We have been intentional about taking care of eachother. We have explored eachothers interests, traveled the world together, and built a relationship based on friendship, faith, and mutual respect for one another. There are numerous reasons for my excitement to marry Joseph- but marrying the man that accepts me as I am, picks me up when I fall, and pushes me to chase my wildest dreams is what makes this day so special.

Madi’s Version

Through the power of social media, I saw the most beautiful girl I had ever seen, Madison Bryant, better known as Miss North Carolina USA 2021. I immediately thought, “I NEED to meet this girl!” So since I have never been afraid to shoot my shot, I decided to message her on instagram and see if she would let me take her out for a drink. Unfortunately, she ignored my message and left me on “read” with no response. Dang! At least I tried! Fast forward 8 months later… she kept popping up on my social media accounts. Every time I looked on facebook or instagram, there she was. And to my surprise, I then saw her on a couple of dating apps! This proved she must be single and I knew this would be my best and probably only chance to meet her. Well… she swiped left (to those who do not understand… this means she rejected me… again). I was determined and appreciated the challenge, even though I probably should have just gotten the hint. I decided to try ONE. LAST. TIME. I knew we had a mutual friend who was Madison’s sorority sister at UNC Charlotte. So I sent ANOTHER message on instagram (I actually forgot I messaged her 8 months prior) and name dropped her friend, but this time I asked her to get food instead of drinks! To my miraculous surprise, she said yes!! (Now that I know Madison, I realize she cannot say no to food and I should have started with that!) For the most part, the rest is history. I unknowingly took her to her favorite restaurant in Charlotte and we had a great first date… so good that I sent a text afterwards to a couple buddies saying “I am going to marry that girl. Mark my words.” Luckily, Madison felt the same way and sent a similar message to her sisters! We fell in love fast and started our journey together. Less than a year later, I was buying a ring and asking for her family’s blessing! I cannot wait for Madison to become Mrs. O’Hara! I also cannot wait for my official new title… Mr. North Carolina :)
