Brett and Maddie grew up in the same town and went to the same high school, but their paths didn’t really cross until senior year. That changed when Brett went viral on Twitter for a funny video, and Maddie took notice. She slid into his DMs (bold move), they started talking, and instantly hit it off.
Their first date was at a thrift store, where they picked out wild outfits for each other, followed by Maddie giving Brett a full makeover - makeup and all. He met her parents that same day while still in full glam. It wasn’t planned, but it set the tone for their relationship: easy, fun, and never boring.
Both Brett and Maddie ended up at Indiana University Bloomington, but not for each other. They made the choice separately, and it ended up being the best decision they ever made.
Once on campus, Maddie introduced Brett to her friends... and somehow, after meeting them maybe once, he moved in with them. That friend group quickly became their group, and some of those roommates-turned-besties are now standing beside them in the wedding.
College was a blur of tailgates, late-night snacks, themed parties, sleepovers in twin-sized beds (how did we do that?), and figuring out adulthood one chaotic moment at a time. They even quarantined together when they both got COVID - not exactly romantic, but definitely memorable. Through it all, they were each other’s constant.
In November 2023, Brett and Maddie bought their first home together, and closed on Brett’s birthday, no less. It was the best gift either of them had ever gotten. Since then, their little house has been filled with thrifted finds, cozy nights in, and their very dramatic (but very loved) dachshund, Reggie.
One quiet morning at home, Brett proposed. Maddie thought it was just a normal day in pajamas, but he had something planned. Later that afternoon, what she believed was a “casual cookout” turned out to be a surprise engagement party with all their favorite people. It was simple, thoughtful, and perfect - just like them.
