On a February Thursday night a good friend that’s close to both of our hearts invited the two of us out for college night on the Strand. Connor was the first one out, oblivious to the fact that this night was the start to the rest of his life. Sitting down at the table Connor sees this stunning, blonde haired, blue eyed woman wearing a green shirt, jean skirt, and boots walking through the door. Next thing you know she’s walking towards the table as Connor’s asking his buddy who that is nervously. His friend said, “Oh that’s Madi I told her to come out.” Connor’s jaw was on the floor and had to hurry up to pick it up before he was introduce to her. From there they were inseparable, moving from place to place talking all night. The last stop of the night was at Buck Shot Saloon. Connor was too nervous to ask her to dance, but before he worked up the courage she held out her hand out and gave him a smile and he quickly took it. They danced all night long never leaving each other’s side until closing time. As soon as the night started it was over and the one mistake Connor made was never asking her for her number. He had to ask his friend for it, and as soon as he got it he reach out. They texted back and forth for a couple days and ended up with plans for him to cook her dinner. From that first date forward they were never without the other for any reason. We all know it was because of Connor’s cooking and dancing skills that sealed the deal.
In the years since, there have been the usual ups and downs of long distance and learning how to make their new adult lives align with work schedules and travel to see the other. But every down has been met with a Christ like grace and love for one another. A year and some change later Connor knew what he wanted to do and that was getting down on one knee and asking her to marry him.
Two days after Christmas Madi, her family, and Connor went to Colorado for a winter break ski trip. Connor had secretly arranged a horse drawn sleigh ride up the side of a mountain, and rented out the entire sleigh so it would just be the two of them for this moment. They drove from Copper Mountain into Breckenridge for the sleigh ride.
At the top of the mountain that over looked a beautifully lit city Connor got down on one knee and professed his love and excitement for their new life together and asked if she’d take his hand in marriage. Madi was so shocked she was speechless and “no you’re not”. But he was, and she said yes!
