Williamsburg was founded as the capital of the Virginia Colony in 1699. The original capital, Jamestown was the first permanent English-speaking settlement in the New World founded in 1607.
Today, Williamsburg is known internationally as the premier center for the preservation and interpretation of American colonial history.
Colonial Williamsburg is the world’s largest living history museum. Their 301 acres feature iconic sites, working tradespeople, historic taverns, and two world-class art museums.
Located adjacent to Colonial Williamsburg, Merchants Square is an 18th century style retail village with over 40 shops and restaurants. We love making a day out of visiting Merchants Square and Colonial Williamsburg because of their close proximity.
Jamestown Settlement is America’s first permanent English colony established in 1607. Walk around the settlement to see what life was like in the 17th century.

Nauticus is a maritime discovery center located along the waterfront in downtown, Norfolk, Virginia. Through interactive exhibits, Nauticus showcases the maritime environment and the military with the museum, Battleship Wisconsin, the sailing center, and Schooner Virginia. The Battleship Wisconsin is one of the largest and last battleships ever built by the U.S. Navy.
Norfolk is about an hour drive from Williamsburg.
