Our Wedding

Andrew and I met the summer after I graduated high school. I was 18 years old and as I&nbsp;headed into college, meeting the love of my life was the last thing I dreamed of. &nbsp;None the less, our paths crossed on a Wednesday afternoon in June when Andrew&nbsp;ordered takeout from the BBQ restaurant I worked at. &nbsp;To my fortune, lightning struck the building, wiping out the electricity and thus, the&nbsp;credit card reader.&nbsp;We talked for nearly an hour waiting for the power to return&nbsp;and finally he agreed to come back to the restaurant the following day to settle up his bill. &nbsp;In my excitement to see him again, I traded shifts with a coworker. &nbsp;However, Thursday came and Andrew didn't show. &nbsp;By my usual shift on Friday he returned and this time sat at the bar to eat his dinner. As&nbsp;penance for his absence on Thursday I played coy and uninterested.&nbsp;When Andrew asked for my phone number I told him I would need to think about it.&nbsp; I admitted I did not want to be anything more than a friend.&nbsp; In his naturally easy going way, he smiled and said that he would love to have me as a friend, then paid and left.&nbsp; I watch out the window as he got into his car and quickly sent a text message telling him “now you have my number, friend”.&nbsp; We spent that summer going for hikes, meeting for pizza and sharing more laughter and closeness than I had ever experienced.&nbsp; In the fall, I began college.&nbsp; Sometime in September Andrew called me and told me that he missed me and asked to come visit me in Boone.&nbsp; I readily admitted that I missed him too and would love to rekindle the intimacy I had so cherished that summer. Looking back now, it’s easy to say the rest is history.&nbsp; For three years we dated through weekend road trips, over the phone movie dates, and incessant text messaging.&nbsp; All the time, I counted Andrew as my very best friend. After nearly seven years together, I am beyond grateful that then, now, and forever, Andrew is my friend, first.&nbsp;
