Maggie’s version- It all started on Diaber’s birthday—September 25, 2018—at a surprise party our friend Amy threw. I brought Odin (my pup) along for a quick visit before work. While setting up, in walked a guy I hadn’t met… but had definitely seen in my “People You May Know” on Facebook. Cute, great smile—I had noticed. We exchanged a quick hello, and later that night, we were finally introduced. From then on, he didn’t leave my side. Every time I stepped outside, there he was—asking to bum a cigarette. (Yes, I smoked. I was in my 20s. No, I didn’t mind.) We swapped numbers, and I spent my night shift texting him. The next day, I tried to sneakily get my friend Jacque to play matchmaker. Whether it was her nudge or fate, we made plans. Our dogs hit it off (a must!), and on September 28, we had our first sushi date. I laughed so much, especially when he kept ordering Malibu martinis even though he hated them—panic ordering is real. Three hangouts in, he finally kissed me. Fireworks. My last first kiss. From the start, being with Zach felt easy, like home. I told him he had me “smitten, kitten.” He told me he loved me. The rest is history. Zach’s version- There I was. A strapping 32 year old dude. Living a bachelors dream with my best friend Bubba. We did what we wanted. Drank from the milk carton. Real outlaw stuff. Then I met Maggie. A Facebook invite to my friend Diabers birthday. The guest list was full of old friends across many friend groups. That’s where I saw Maggie sitting on the couch with Odin. Holy smokes. Immediately I took my beer to the kitchen and asked Amy “who’s the hottie on the couch?”. I was met with a resounding YES and got the brief run down. The rest of the afternoon I tried to play it cool making small talk and trying not to make a nervous fool of myself. Bubba and Odin gave us their blessing a few days later after a walk around the lake. From that day on we were just kind of, us.
