Whether or not to rent a car in Key West depends on your
plans and preferences. Here are some considerations:
Pros of Renting a Car:
Exploring Beyond Key West: If you plan to explore other parts of the Florida Keys, such as Marathon or Key Largo, having a car can be very convenient.
Flexibility: A car gives you the freedom to move around at your own pace and visit less accessible spots.
Cons of Renting a Car:
Parking: Parking can be challenging and expensive in Key West, especially in popular areas like Old Town.
Walkability: Key West is very pedestrian and bike-friendly. Many attractions, restaurants, and shops are within walking or biking distance.
Public Transportation: There are reliable public transportation options, including buses and taxis, which can get you around the island easily.
Alternatives:
Biking: Renting a bike is a popular option and allows you to
enjoy the scenic views while getting around.
Scooters: Scooters are another fun and efficient way to navigate the island.
Walking: If you’re staying in Old Town, most places are within walking distance.
If your stay is primarily within Key West and you enjoy walking or biking, you might not need a car. However, if you plan to explore the wider area, renting a car could be beneficial.
