Caleb began attending Houston’s First Baptist Church in 2022 after moving from Lubbock where he grew up and graduating from Texas tech.
Makayla started visiting Houston’s First in early 2024 while home from College Station, tagging along with her cousins who knew Caleb. After graduating from Texas A&M and moving back to Houston, she began attending more regularly as she settled into post-college life.
The two first met in August 2024 at a Singles class retreat, where they ended up on the same relay team (and won!). Caleb, smitten and eager to see her again, got his chance two weeks later at a country dance night where Caleb asked Makayla to dance with him (thank you, Chris, for convincing Caleb to go out dancing that night!). After another encounter at a church late-night event, he nervously asked for her number. A week of texting led to their first coffee date on September 28th, where they talked for nearly three hours before heading—late—to a football watch party. After several more dates, Caleb asked Makayla to be his girlfriend on November 12th.
Their relationship blossomed through concerts and rodeos, road trips, Chick-fil-A runs, and bookstore dates. Caleb knew Makayla was the one when she stepped in to help lead their bible study's Operation Christmas Child project with grace, kindness, and servant-hearted leadership. Makayla, too, admired Caleb’s generosity and devotion to serving others and the Lord—qualities she had prayed for in a future husband.
After months of dating, Caleb asked Makayla’s parents for their blessing to propose. On September 28th, 2025—the anniversary of their first date—he proposed beneath the Century Tree at Texas A&M. Through happy tears, Makayla said yes.
We are so excited to begin this next chapter and celebrate with all our family and friends!
