How They Met…

Makayla was born and raised in Comer, GA and attended Madison County High. Doster was born and raised in Covington, GA and attended Eastside High. Their paths crossed for the first time in high school when they were introduced to each other by a mutual friend at an FFA contest at UGA’s Whitehall Forest in Athens in spring of 2017. But it wasn’t until two years later in spring of 2019 when they were both students at UGA that the two reconnected and began to get to know each other. Makayla was working for the Georgia FFA office on campus and Dos was a Georgia State FFA Officer so he was frequently in-and-out of her office preparing for FFA events throughout the year. Dos began to develop an interest in Makayla and would often pop into the office “to see Andy” who Makayla shared an office with and who was “coincidently” never there when Dos would come by. Makayla was slow to catch onto Dos’s plan, thinking “Wow! He should start checking to see if Andy is in before he comes all the way here!” But his plan worked because the more he came in, the more they got to know each other, and after Dos retired from his officer position Makayla got his contact information. The two began to chat throughout the summer until they were both back in Athens for the school year and Dos took her on their first date (dinner at La Parilla, Lion King live action movie, and then Sonic milkshakes to end the night) on August 9th, 2019.

The Proposal…

After talking with Makayla’s family and friends, Doster asked Makayla to join him on a “casual” Sunday date for the two of them while she was back home from school for the weekend. On April 28, 2024, the plan, as far as Makayla knew, was to attend the Sunday morning service at the church the two of them used to attend when they went to UGA and then grab lunch. After lunch downtown Dos invited Makayla on a walk through UGA’s north campus with the excuse being “to see all the updates they made since we graduated”. Dos led Makayla to the Founder’s Garden, Makayla’s favorite spot and the spot where they had their first picnic during the pandemic on the same date four years prior. In the corner of the garden, Dos had a beautiful set up of candles, flowers, and pictures of the two of them over the years (and a photographer waiting in the bushes!). He popped the question and, of course, she said yes!
