The Beginning

Brock and Kenzie first met in 2008 at Chisholm Trail Junior High (now a middle school). Kenzie danced on the school Drill Team, and Brock was the kind, gentle soul who quietly stood out in their friend group. Even then, there was something different about him.He would often come by Kenzie’s house and sweetly ask her mom if he could walk her to school—a simple five-minute stroll around the corner. Her mom always smiled and said yes, later telling Kenzie how kind she thought he was. After school, Brock would be there again, waiting to carry her dance bag as they crossed the street to Price Chopper or stopped by Starbies, always making time to walk her home. He would even ask his older sister, Afton, to wait on him so he could make sure Kenzie got there safely.Through junior high, they were just friends—but even then, it felt like something special was quietly growing between them.

Highschool Separation

As junior high ended, Brock and Kenzie found themselves on different paths. Brock went to Olathe Northwest, and Kenzie went to Olathe South. Life naturally pulled them in separate directions—new schools, new friends, new routines.But even as their worlds grew apart, the connection they shared never completely faded. Every now and then, they found themselves in the same place at the same time—brief, unexpected moments in high school where their paths would cross. They were fleeting, but meaningful: a conversation, a laugh, a moment paused. Though no longer constants in each other’s everyday lives, the friendship they built in those early years quietly remained—tucked safely in the background, steady and important. Some bonds, even softened by time and distance, never truly disappear.

Becoming People

Brock continued on his path, heading to Pittsburg State where he earned his degree in Construction Management. He spent time in Nebraska—GBR!—surrounded by his sisters, building not just a career, but the foundation for the life he envisioned. Even then, he had his eye on the long-term prizes: stability, purpose, and something real.Meanwhile, Kenzie went to Emporia State, carrying dreams, questions, and a heart that still had some growing to do. Life took her to Oklahoma for a while, where she was met with the kinds of lessons that only distance and time can teach. She stumbled, discovered, and changed. Those years shaped her in ways she didn’t yet understand—but they were necessary.They were each becoming who they needed to be, miles apart, unaware that the roots of something beautiful had already been planted years ago on quiet walks to school and afternoons at Price Chopper. Even then, life was gently guiding them back to each other.

Finding Eachother

Then, 16 years later in October of 2024, Brock reached out. He said he needed a truck to move some siding from one job site to another. What Kenzie didn’t know at the time was that Brock’s family was deeply involved in shipping—meaning he didn’t actually need her help. But maybe—after all those years—what he needed was something else. Something familiar. Something real. Maybe… Kenzie.From that day forward, something shifted. They began talking every single day—texting from morning till night, then spending hours on the phone once work was done. It felt natural, effortless… like picking up a conversation that had only been paused. The calls quickly turned into FaceTimes—all day, every day. They even skipped family functions just to be with each other, even if only through a screen.It started as something simple, rooted in a friendship that had quietly endured the test of time. But slowly, surely, it began to grow into something more. Something neither of them expected… but everything they both needed.

Forever

By February, after three and a half months of daily conversation, Kenzie finally asked Brock, “When are you going to ask me on a date?” She couldn’t wait any longer.Their first official date was at Houlihan’s. Something about that night just clicked. Sitting across from Brock, seeing him not just as the sweet boy from junior high but as the man he’d become, Kenzie knew there was something very real between them.The very next night, Kenzie was at her best friend’s birthday party, and couldn’t stop thinking about Brock. So, she asked him to go to a Dolly Parton pop-up bar (because, of course, Dolly would be part of their love story). He agreed, and Kenzie drove her car to meet him, where they decided to ride together—marking the beginning of Kenzie’s forever passenger princess life. That night was filled with laughter, dancing, and a lightness that felt like home. As they left, hearts full and smiles wide, they looked at each other and made a quiet, powerful decision: they were in this. Together.From that moment on, there was no question. They brought each other a joy and comfort that was so unexpected, so natural—it felt like coming home after a long journey.
