Rumor has it that Petaluma is one of the beer capitals of the United States. Lagunitas began in 1993 and moved from Fort Knolls to Petaluma in 1995. Stop by for a cold beer, live music, and some dog-sighting.
Petaluma has some lovely farmers markets and farms, including a Dahlia Farm you can visit. Enjoy the beautiful weather and grab some produce to snack on (though none compares to what comes out of Dyan's parents' garden).
Helen Putnam Regional Park is a compact wilderness park southwest of Petaluma. The park's 6 miles of trails cross grassy hillsides and weave through oak woodlands. Ridge-top trails provide panoramic views of the city and the southern Sonoma County countryside.
The oldest continually operating cheese manufacturer in the U.S., Marin French Cheese Co. has been making cheese for over 150 years and welcomes visitors to its scenic cheese factory to purchase artisan cheeses. They also offer picnic provisions, including breads, meats, and sandwiches, in case you’d like to stay a while and picnic by the pond.
