TRAVEL TIMELINE:Plan to arrive a few days early so you aren't jet lagged and can enjoy the sights in Melbourne. Also, remember it takes two days to get to Australia, due to the international date line - one day will magically disappear. PASSPORT REMINDER:Make sure to check your passport doesn't expire within 6 months of travel or they won't let you in the country. HOW TO GET TO THE VENUE

Train, tram, taxi and uber all drop you off either right outside the Melbourne Club or a short walk away. If you choose to train, hop off at the Parliament Station stop in the City Loop and walk 2 blocks (Google Maps will show you the way). If you choose to tram, the 109, 11, 48 or 12 drop you off in front of the Club.

Here are some of the top things to do in Melbourne. Spend a day at each or combine a few. All are accessible via tram, train, bike, scooter or Uber – so no need for a rental car. Feel free to ask us any follow up questions you might have.

Malia worked here for three years when we lived in Melbourne and it's one of her favorite galleries in the world (but she might be a little biased).

National Gallery of Victoria

A great place for yummy eats and cheap Australian souvenirs – all set in a old historical market.

Queen Victoria Market

A gorgeous 200 year-old garden with wandering paths, a delicious cafe and a pond. Great for an afternoon stroll or picnic.

Royal Botanic Gardens Victoria

One of the more beautiful libraries we've seen, with a great bookstore and free pop-up gallery installations.

State Library Victoria

A great indoor market full of cute vendor stalls, fresh meat and produce and a food hall featuring local restaurants.

South Melbourne Market

A gorgeous modern art museum set amongst rolling gardens.

Heide Museum of Modern Art

This market – as well as Brunswick and Gertrude Streets in the Fitzroy neighborhood – are great for shopping local cloths and goods.

Fitzroy Market

The downtown Melbourne area has heaps of hidden laneways decorated with impressive urban art, featuring secret bars, hole-in-the-wall coffee shops and trendy stores. Spend a day exploring!

Iconic beach with bathing boxes, set next to the cute seaside neighborhood of Brighton, home to upscale restaurants and shops.

Brighton Bathing Boxes

A great indoor market with delicious deli, cheese, meats and vegetable stalls. Great place to grab a picnic and then head to the Royal Botanical Garden for lunch.

Eat and Drink

DAY TRIPS:

There are a few amazing regions within a short drive from Melbourne worth exploring. You will need a rental car to get to these regions, but all are a great way to spend a day (or 3!) getting to know the local Australian food, beverage, flora and fauna.

Stunning scenery, gourmet eateries, scenic farms and cute country towns.

Great Ocean Road

An island 2-hour drive from Melbourne worth spending a day or two exploring. Famous for tiny penguins who go on parade every night at sunset.

Phillip Island

Beautiful wine region 1.5 hr drive from Melbourne. Healesville is a beautiful country town in the Yarra Valley, home to Four Pillars Gin Distillery and Healesville animal sanctuary (the best place to see all the Australian animals you can imagine).

Yarra Valley

Another gorgeous wine country region, home to a national park, Moonlight sanctuary (the only animal sanctuary in Victoria where you can pet koalas), outdoor spa and cute seaside town of Sorrento.

Mornington Peninsula

A country region 1-2 hours outside Melbourne, with spas, scenic hikes, gardens and gourmet food and bev.

Dalesford and Macedon Ranges

AUSTRALIA ITINERARY SUGGESTIONS

Australia is full of incredible places to discover. If you have the time and means we recommend taking a week or two before or after our wedding to explore the Great Southern Land. Here are some regions to research more - taken from a few tourism websites. Keep in mind everything is very far apart (as Australia is about the size of the US, geographically speaking) but with way less people and infrastructure. Yes, you can drive for an entire day in the Outback and see nothing, literally nothing, not a tree, town, gas station, etc. But have no feat, there is a region for everyone and so much to do! Let us know if you have questions or want help planning – we have a bunch more suggestions. :)

It's an island off of an island. Full of untouched scenery, award-winning gourmet restaurants, galleries and wineries and some of the best wildlife spotting opportunities. One of our favorite places in Australia – we can't recommend it enough.

Tasmania

The Whitsundays

"One of Australia’s oldest wine regions, the Barossa is synonymous with fine wine. The Barossa is one of the world’s great wine producing areas, boasting more than 150 wineries and 80 cellar doors. In fact, it's home to the world's oldest continuously producing shiraz, grenache, mataro, cabernet sauvignon and semillon vines. Rich reds are renowned here, as are fortified wines. Barossa Valley and Adelaide

Darwin

Gold Coast

"The ancient rock formations of Uluru and Kata Tjuta rise from the land to make an incredible sight. Immerse yourself in the Aboriginal stories of this special place, 500 million years in the making. In Australia’s Red Centre lies the spectacular Uluru and Kata Tjuta National Park. Home to many ancient wonders, the park is most famous for the enormous monoliths it’s named after. Uluru and Kata Tjuta rise from the earth in all their red glory just 30km (19mi) from each other. Measuring 348m (1,140ft) high and 9.5km (6mi) in circumference, Uluru is the largest sandstone monolith in the world, while Kata Tjuta is made up of 36 giant domes spread over more than 20km (12mi). Uluṟu-Kata Tjuṯa National Park
