Our Travel Tips

·  Don't forget your passport!

· For current passport holders, there are new travel requirements for Europe.
The European Travel Information and Authorization System (ETIAS) is a new travel authorization system that will be required for visa-exempt travelers to enter most European countries beginning in 2025; applications should cost around $10 and are valid for three years

· We recommend using Google Flights to track flights 1 year-6 months out to try to find the best deals.

· It will be helpful to either bookmark the following on your phone’s browser, or download the related apps to navigate around, including:
-your airline app
-The Tube (London’s inner-city bus & subway system)
-NationalRail (UK’s national train network) or LNER (London North Eastern Railway)
-The Harrogate Bus Company (local & Yorkshire region bus system)
-Bolt (EU rideshare service)
-Mainline Taxi (Harrogate’s taxi service)
*Our phones are really smart! If you enter your destination into your phone’s GPS, it will work in coordination with these apps to give you detailed directions for walking, driving, or public transit to get you wherever you need to go!

· Remember: they drive on the opposite side of the road in the UK!

· You will need to purchase a charging block adapter, because their outlets are different than ours (something like this!)

· While our ceremony will not be in a tourist city, there is so much to see and do within a few hours drive or a short train ride; you can really pack in a lot of sight-seeing during your trip if you wish! We have a full itinerary from our 2022 trip that includes locations and pricing of popular tourist sites at nearby cities (York, London, Edinburgh, and Dublin). We would be happy to share these with you if you are interested!

· There will be wifi available at both the ceremony location & the suggested hotels, but charges for phone calls/texts & data without wifi will vary based on your phone plan. Please remember to contact your phone carrier ahead of time to discuss rates for out-of-country services.

· Remember: there is a currency exchange. You cannot use American cash, but you can use most US-issued credit debit/credit cards. Please remember to check with your banking institution on exchange rate & usability before arriving.

· Use your resources & work together! If you know someone else who is coming, try to coordinate with them when making travel arrangements & booking - it will not only help to cut costs by sharing expenses, but also help you to feel more comfortable navigating new places with a travel buddy (or 2)!

· If you plan ahead, this trip can be relatively affordable!

· All of the UK is English-speaking – do not be afraid to ask for help if you need it!
