Our Wedding

Mara and Jake met in Cambridge while in business school at MIT in 2017. In fact, they were introduced 3 separate times – a sign that the universe was pulling them together.&nbsp;

First interaction: They first met at MIT Sloan’s Japan C-Function, a “cultural” party best known for its rapid beer consumption. Dressed to theme, Jake was wearing a yukata and was introduced to Mara by a mutual friend. Rather than saying a simple hello, Jake headed to the bar for another round. How romantic.

Second introduction: The next morning, Jake awoke to an email from his close friend Greg Kim, introducing Jake to a healthcare-interested first year Sloanie – Mara. Not surprisingly, Jake remembered Mara from the night before and suggested they grab lunch to chat about business and healthcare. Really riveting stuff, very professional.&nbsp;

Third time is the charm: As a first-year graduate student interested in recruiting for consulting, Mara joined the Sloan “Consulting Club” for preparation. The stars again aligned as Jake was assigned to Mara as her official mentor, responsible for reviewing her resume and providing two mock interviews. He gave her five instead (NOTE: She nailed her interviews.)

Over the semester, they became friends. And in early December, at another “C-function”, they talked the entire night. Mara’s friends noted, “So that is why your consulting club mentor gave you five mock interviews!” Jake’s friends made crude gestures behind Mara to try to make him laugh. At the end of the night, Jake walked Mara home and they had their first kiss.&nbsp;

The next day, Jake’s friends advised him to “play it cool” and not text Mara immediately. Mara, however, was convinced that she would receive a text within 24 hours and was shocked when she didn’t hear from him.&nbsp;

Later that week, they ran into each other on campus, and Jake invited Mara to his band’s concert, The Sloan school band -- The Rolling Sloans. The show was sick, and Jake was rocking out the whole time. Everyone was really into it. After the show, Jake made a bee-line to Mara and asked her out. The rest is history.

Our Story
