Hotel Recommendation Help

Is Cartagena safe?

The answer is, yes! Cartagena is very safe. To ensure maximal safety and enjoyment on your trip to Cartagena, it is suggested that when strolling the streets, women should wear a crossbody purse and keep it zipped at all times. It is also suggested not to walk around streets with expensive looking jewelry. However regarding jewelry, if you are taking transport to one place (like for wedding events), it is fine! You also want to keep jewelry and valuables on your person when traveling through airports. Do not put valuables in checked luggage.

What is the best mode of transportation?

Uber/ Lyft! Uber and Lyft are definitely the cheapest, easiest, and safest option. Taxis don't have meters, so drivers can scam riders on rates. Thankfully, many places within the Walled City are walking distance to the welcome party and wedding venue, but if you choose to have transport, Uber is the suggested method.

Can I drink the water in Cartagena?

The water is potable, so technically you can. However, it is suggested to stick to bottled water. Don't be afraid of ice though, it is totally fine!

Where should I stay?

We recommend staying in the Walled City district for the convenience of being close to the wedding event venues! Plus the Walled City district offers such a vibrant atmosphere and culture. A few hotel recommendations would be Hotel Santa Catalina, Casa La Factoria, Casa Pestagua, and Casa DiLuca. What is the currency in Cartagena?

The currency is in Colombian pesos! However, most places take credit card. We suggest bringing some cash to exchange into Colombian pesos to have some cash on hand. There is an exchange booth at the airport located right before you exit the airport!
