It all started when we were both in college at Boise State University. I, Maggie, walked into Cole’s house for a game night with our roommates, at what we affectionately called the “Joyce House.” The first thing I noticed was the lit-up Dodgers sign on the wall, so I asked, “Who’s the Dodgers fan?”
Cole—who wasn’t planning to participate in the game night swung his head around the corner and said, “That would be mine.” And that was the beginning of our conversation!
Later on that night, I learned that Cole’s last name was Scully. I immediately got excited and asked, “LIKE VIN?” (because, obviously, who doesn’t think of the legendary Vin Scully, the voice of the Dodgers?). Cole quickly replied, “No, we’re not related,” It was a funny moment that set the tone for so many more laughs to come.
We spent the night playing Jackbox games, getting to know each other, and talking about everything from baseball to life in general.
A couple days later, there was a St. Patrick’s Day party at Cole’s house. As the night went on, we found ourselves walking to the famous Boise State bar, Suds, together, and discovered that we had so many common interests—Post Malone, Marvel movies, and some pretty funny stories. Cole likes to say that when I mentioned my love for Marvel, he knew I was the one.
At the end of the night, Cole asked me to be his date for his fraternity formal the following week. Little did he know what he was getting himself into- I busted out my karaoke skills in the car on the way there and even performed the worm in front of all his friends! After witnessing how “shy” I am, A week later, on April 17th, Cole officially asked me to be his girlfriend. That was the start of our adventure together!
Our first official date was to see the new Batman movie, which felt pretty perfect for two people who bonded over superheroes .
From there, we went on countless adventures! Weekend trips to Bend, Oregon, Salt Lake City, and Denver, and even an unforgettable European getaway to London, Dublin, and Edinburgh. We both graduated from Boise State (Cole in 2023 and me in 2024), and have continued to enjoy life together—cheering on Boise State, watching the Dodgers, hitting the golf course, trying new places to eat, and hanging out with our dog, Stoney.
Speaking of Stoney, here’s a fun fact: Cole got Stoney before we met, but I actually met him first! One of my roommates brought him over to our apartment, and Stoney, being his usual excited self, zoomied around and peed on my shoes. I like to joke that he claimed me first!
After all the fun, laughter, and growth together, Cole proposed on October 12, 2024, in Jackson, Wyoming. It was the most amazing day of our lives, surrounded by breathtaking scenery. We celebrated that night with a dinner at the Million Dollar Cowboy, and then toasted to our future with both our families back in Boise, hopping on the Boise Bike Bars.
Now, as we plan our wedding and the next chapter of our lives, we can’t wait to celebrate with all of you. We’re so excited to have you there as we say “I do” and continue building our story!
