Maggie and Kristopher met on July 26th , 2020. Maggie had just finished a Raytheon work friends' river trip in San Marcos and was heading down south to meet her family in Corpus Christi. She needed a place to stay for a night in San Antonio, so she reached out to her great family friends, Spencer and Luke Duigon. After a fun afternoon of swimming, the three of them decided to go get dinner at a close-by restaurant, Lupe Tortilla. Meanwhile, just a few streets over, Kristopher was enjoying one of his last evenings with his family before his big move to Mississippi to begin medical school. To celebrate him and bid him farewell, they chose one of their family favorites for dinner, Lupe Tortilla. Sun-kissed and with dripping wet hair, Maggie slapped her homemade Texas A&M COVID-19 mask on and got a margarita at the bar, waiting for a table. Also at the bar were Kristopher and his stepmom, Lisa. Maggie instantly noticed the tall handsome man and the small woman next to him. They made eye contact, but she didn’t think much of it because he was with people. Maggie and the Duigons then got their table and were seated. A few moments later the woman from the bar approached their table with a smile, saying “Hi! I noticed your Aggie mask and wanted to give my stepson’s phone number to you!”. She handed Maggie a paper, and then scurried off. Smiling down at the little piece of paper with a “Kris" and phone number scribbled on it, Maggie was excited for the handsome man to hopefully come to the table. And sure enough, later in their meal, he appeared to introduce himself. Kind pleasantries were exchanged, and small talk had. Then Kristopher sadly and dismissingly told Maggie he was moving to Mississippi in a couple days, said it was nice to meet her, and walked back to his family. The next move was on her… Later that night, after receiving encouraging advice from Spencer, and with her mother’s voice in her head saying, “it’s always good to make new friends,” Maggie decided to boldly text Kristopher and invite him to breakfast the next morning before heading to Corpus Christi.
They met (Kristopher a couple minutes late from picking up a moving trailer) at a First Watch for breakfast and spent over three hours on the amazing date. Neither one of them wanted to leave the other, but with obligations looming, they begrudgingly hugged goodbye with promises to text and call. And thus, the beginning of their long distance started. From that moment on it was frequent evening facetimes, constant texts, snapchatting - anything to talk to one another. Maggie, busy with work and life, Kristopher way busier with hard medical school demands, it was tough, but they made it work. That December, home from his first semester, Kristopher invited Maggie on a snazzy date in Plano where he asked her to officially be his girlfriend.
They quickly got in the groove of long distance, Maggie frequently making the trip out to Mississippi to spend time with him in both Hattiesburg, and later Meridian. Some of their favorite. memories are when it was just the two of them, exploring the fun little adventures the state of Mississippi had to offer. In his time in Mississippi, Maggie’s parents were able to take them to both Texas A&M football games in Mississippi, one in the fall of ’21 at Ole Miss and the other the fall of ’22 at Mississippi State. The love for their shared alma mater runs very deep for the couple and is something that adds joy and connection to their relationship. During his usually brief and infrequent trips to Texas, it was always a chaotic schedule to ensure all family and friends were seen, but neither of them would have it any other way. Another large, shared connection they have is their immense value and love for family. His family is her family, and vice versa.
With the help of many friends and family, on February 4th of 2023, Kristopher successfully pulled off the most perfect and beautiful proposal. A very shocked Maggie (who thought she was going to a friend’s birthday party) was driven by her closest friends to Flippen Park in Highland Park, where she found him waiting on a bench with her favorite flowers in hand, tulips, waiting to ask her to be his wife. Followed by an amazing engagement party, the whole event was truly magical and unforgettable for the couple. Maggie and Kristopher are beyond thankful to have both gone to that Lupe Tortilla on the same night, all those years ago. Their relationship has been a fairytale and will continue to be one as they get married, continue to grow together as a team, and hopefully start a family of their own someday. They are soulmates through and through. Marriage cannot come fast enough for the couple, and they are so excited for their marriage to begin surrounded by friends and family.
