Travel Tips for Italy & Lake Como
To help make your trip as seamless and enjoyable as possible, we’ve put together a few helpful tips for traveling in Italy.
Electricity & Adapters
Italy uses Type C, F, and L plugs with a standard voltage of 230V. We recommend bringing a universal adapter for your devices. Most modern electronics (phones, laptops) are dual voltage, but ladies, check your hair tools as many require a converter.
Currency & Payments
The local currency is the Euro (€). Credit cards are widely accepted, but we recommend having some cash on hand for taxis, small shops, or cafés. For international travelers, apps like Wise can be a convenient way to manage currency exchange and payments abroad.
Tipping Etiquette
Tipping in Italy is appreciated but not expected. In restaurants, service is often included; rounding up or leaving a small tip (5–10%) is appreciated. For taxis, simply round up to the nearest euro. At hotels, €1–2 for housekeeping or porters is customary.
Getting Around
Lake Como is spread across several towns, and transportation between them typically involves boats, taxis, or private drivers. We recommend planning transportation in advance when possible, especially during peak summer season.
Walking & Terrain
Many areas feature cobblestone streets, gravel paths, and uneven terrain. Comfortable walking shoes are highly recommended while exploring!
Weather
July in Lake Como is warm and sunny, with cooler evenings. We recommend light, breathable fabrics during the day and a light layer or wrap for the evening.
Phone Service & Connectivity
International roaming plans are helpful for staying connected. Wi-Fi is widely available at hotels and restaurants, but having mobile data can be useful for navigation and transportation. Ahead of your travel, please download WhatsApp as we will be using this to communicate with the weekend group for in-the-moment updates!
Italian Timing
Dining and service in Italy tend to be more relaxed than in the U.S. Meals are meant to be enjoyed, not rushed. We encourage you to embrace the slower pace and savor the experience! That said, all weekend Wedding events will begin & end on time :)
