Newburyport

Enjoy the quaint, coastal city of Newburyport. The first time Mari visited, she said, “This reminds me of a Hallmark movie.” She was right…The Hallmark movie A Ring for Christmas was filmed in Newburyport in 2022. Stroll the brick sidewalks, and you’re certain to make memories that will connect you to wonderful shopping and restaurants. Some of Richard and Mari’s favorite establishments are Paddle Inn, Tuscan Grill (water view), Loretta (engagement took place there), and Starboard Galley.
Amesbury

Enjoy the charming city of Amesbury, located on the left bank of the Merrimack River, but what’s most special about Amesbury is that Richard grew up there. Explore the vibrant downtown area with an eclectic choice of restaurants, breweries, shopping, and art galleries. While you’re downtown, check out the Powwow River, simply breathtaking. Some of Richard and Mari’s favorite establishments are Barking Dog (old school, very friendly staff), Andyman’s Bagel (a true east coast bagel), Blue Moon, and Flatbread Pizza.
Salisbury Beach

If you feel like chillaxing, grab your flip flops and head to Salisbury Beach, a very long, sandy east coast beach perfect for walking. Richard worked the Himalaya ride during the summers in his college years, so the area is very near and dear to him. Mari is happiest when her toes are in water and sand, so the first time she visited, she fell in love not just with the beach but the nostalgic vibe. How does an area not change in decades?? The boardwalk, arcades, beach shops, it’s like going back in time, and the local fare hasn’t changed either…beach pizza, fried dough, sausage grinders, and ice cream. There has been one recent addition, the gorgeous historical carousel, which is worth a visit.
Markey's Lobster Pool

Markey’s Lobster Pool, established in 1971, a locale that evolved into a family tradition for generations, is where Richard and Mari like to go for true east coast lobsta. It is extremely casual, a style fervently embraced by coastal diners from Maine to Cape Cod. Dine on the expansive deck, enjoy the marsh views, and chat with some locals.
