If you'd like an even closer look of Niagara Falls, you can board the Maid of the Mist, a ferry boat that takes you to the very base of the Falls. The launch point is in Niagara Falls State Park. Consider wearing flip flops because your clothes will get wet from the mist of the Falls. Ponchos are also provided by the Maid of the Mist staff once you board the boat.
Located across the street from Niagara Crossing Hotel & Spa, the Whirlpool Jet Boat Tours launches out of Lewiston on the lower Niagara River. The boat tour will take you upriver towards the class 5 rapids of the Niagara River, with a view of Canada just across the river. Check out the website for reservations and FAQs. Wear clothes you don't mind getting wet.
A quaint village sitting less than a mile from Canada, Lewiston, NY is full of history. Once considered the last stop on the Underground Railroad, Lewiston is full of historic buildings and sites, including the nearby Fort Niagara, where the War of 1812 was fought. Mosey down Center Street and pop into some of the niche shops, mom and pop restaurants, and take in the view of the Niagara River.
For those who are staying at Niagara Crossing Hotel & Spa, you are already in the village of Lewiston and within walking distance of all the sites.
Bring your passports because Canada is a short 10 minute drive away. You can view the Falls from the Canadian side, as well as visit Clifton Hill, a mini Vegas with a Ferris wheel overlooking the Falls, casinos, restaurants, bars, haunted houses, putt putt, and other campy attractions.
Located 30 minutes from Niagara Crossing Hotel & Spa is Becker Farms (conveniently, we will be getting married at their vineyard on Saturday). During any autumn day, you can visit the farm, pick apples, enjoy some apple cider and homemade donuts, and take your basic fall girl photos.
This is a family friendly location and also includes a petting zoo for little ones.
Maria and her family have visited this farm many times growing up and it has only become more quaint with time.
