It&nbsp;started&nbsp;with&nbsp;a&nbsp;show. He&nbsp;was&nbsp;on&nbsp;stage— She&nbsp;was&nbsp;in&nbsp;the&nbsp;crowd—posted&nbsp;up,&nbsp;just&nbsp;watching&nbsp;him&nbsp;play. And&nbsp;if&nbsp;you&nbsp;know&nbsp;Jason,&nbsp;you&nbsp;know&nbsp;when&nbsp;he’s&nbsp;locked&nbsp;in,&nbsp;he&nbsp;disappears&nbsp;into&nbsp;the&nbsp;music.&nbsp;So&nbsp;Maria&nbsp;figured&nbsp;he&nbsp;didn’t&nbsp;even&nbsp;notice&nbsp;her. Their&nbsp;first&nbsp;date&nbsp;was&nbsp;at&nbsp;the&nbsp;L.A.&nbsp;County&nbsp;Fair.&nbsp;It&nbsp;felt&nbsp;like&nbsp;being&nbsp;teenagers&nbsp;again—nervous,&nbsp;excited,&nbsp;holding&nbsp;hands&nbsp;like&nbsp;it&nbsp;was&nbsp;the&nbsp;biggest&nbsp;deal&nbsp;in&nbsp;the&nbsp;world.&nbsp;And&nbsp;honestly?&nbsp;It&nbsp;kinda&nbsp;was. Maria&nbsp;knew&nbsp;early&nbsp;that&nbsp;Jason&nbsp;was&nbsp;the&nbsp;one. Not&nbsp;long&nbsp;after,&nbsp;the&nbsp;world&nbsp;changed—the&nbsp;global&nbsp;pandemic&nbsp;hit.&nbsp;&nbsp; And&nbsp;instead&nbsp;of&nbsp;pulling&nbsp;them&nbsp;apart,&nbsp;it&nbsp;brought&nbsp;them&nbsp;even&nbsp;closer.&nbsp;&nbsp; They&nbsp;spent&nbsp;lockdown&nbsp;together,&nbsp;staying&nbsp;safe,&nbsp;traveling&nbsp;carefully,&nbsp;and&nbsp;taking&nbsp;care&nbsp;of&nbsp;one&nbsp;another.&nbsp;&nbsp; They&nbsp;found&nbsp;peace&nbsp;in&nbsp;their&nbsp;little&nbsp;bubble—cooking,&nbsp;laughing,&nbsp;watching&nbsp;movies,&nbsp;and&nbsp;learning&nbsp;who&nbsp;they&nbsp;really&nbsp;were&nbsp;when&nbsp;the&nbsp;world&nbsp;slowed&nbsp;down.&nbsp;&nbsp; Maria&nbsp;got&nbsp;to&nbsp;see&nbsp;the&nbsp;kind&nbsp;of&nbsp;man&nbsp;Jason&nbsp;was&nbsp;in&nbsp;crisis—and&nbsp;Jason&nbsp;saw&nbsp;the&nbsp;kind&nbsp;of&nbsp;woman&nbsp;Maria&nbsp;had&nbsp;always&nbsp;been:&nbsp;Both&nbsp;showed&nbsp;each&nbsp;other&nbsp;that&nbsp;they&nbsp;were&nbsp;strong,&nbsp;grounded&nbsp;and&nbsp;protective.&nbsp; That&nbsp;time&nbsp;deepened&nbsp;everything. Music,&nbsp;always.&nbsp;Metal,&nbsp;obviously. But&nbsp;also&nbsp;Halloween,&nbsp;horror,&nbsp;animals,&nbsp;their&nbsp;laughs,&nbsp;and&nbsp;a&nbsp;zero-tolerance&nbsp;policy&nbsp;for&nbsp;bullshit.&nbsp;They&nbsp;share&nbsp;the&nbsp;same&nbsp;values,&nbsp;the&nbsp;same&nbsp;politics,&nbsp;same&nbsp;love&nbsp;for&nbsp;family&nbsp;and&nbsp;justice.&nbsp;They’ve&nbsp;grown&nbsp;together,&nbsp;traveled&nbsp;together,&nbsp;and&nbsp;never&nbsp;made&nbsp;each&nbsp;other&nbsp;feel&nbsp;like&nbsp;too&nbsp;much. Maria&nbsp;helped&nbsp;Jason&nbsp;reconnect&nbsp;with&nbsp;his&nbsp;Mexican&nbsp;roots—not&nbsp;because&nbsp;he&nbsp;was&nbsp;missing&nbsp;something,&nbsp;but&nbsp;because&nbsp;she&nbsp;reminded&nbsp;him&nbsp;of&nbsp;what&nbsp;was&nbsp;already&nbsp;his.&nbsp;Through&nbsp;food,&nbsp;stories,&nbsp;and&nbsp;love,&nbsp;she&nbsp;brought&nbsp;that&nbsp;part&nbsp;of&nbsp;him&nbsp;to&nbsp;the&nbsp;front&nbsp;again.&nbsp;She&nbsp;spoiled&nbsp;him&nbsp;with&nbsp;home-cooked&nbsp;meals—her&nbsp;way&nbsp;of&nbsp;loving&nbsp;loud—and&nbsp;made&nbsp;sure&nbsp;he&nbsp;never&nbsp;forgot&nbsp;where&nbsp;he&nbsp;came&nbsp;from.&nbsp;He&nbsp;carries&nbsp;that&nbsp;now&nbsp;in&nbsp;his&nbsp;music,&nbsp;in&nbsp;his&nbsp;teaching,&nbsp;and&nbsp;in&nbsp;the&nbsp;way&nbsp;he&nbsp;walks&nbsp;through&nbsp;the&nbsp;world—with&nbsp;pride. Everyone&nbsp;who&nbsp;knows&nbsp;Maria&nbsp;knows&nbsp;she’s&nbsp;a&nbsp;proud&nbsp;Mexicana&nbsp;and&nbsp;loud&nbsp;about&nbsp;it.&nbsp;Deep&nbsp;in&nbsp;it!&nbsp;She&nbsp;carries&nbsp;her&nbsp;culture&nbsp;in&nbsp;everything&nbsp;she&nbsp;does. Jason&nbsp;grew&nbsp;up&nbsp;around&nbsp;it,&nbsp;but&nbsp;like&nbsp;a&nbsp;lot&nbsp;of&nbsp;us,&nbsp;some&nbsp;of&nbsp;it&nbsp;got&nbsp;pushed&nbsp;to&nbsp;the&nbsp;background&nbsp;over&nbsp;time. Maria&nbsp;wasn’t&nbsp;having&nbsp;it. So&nbsp;she&nbsp;brought&nbsp;it&nbsp;front&nbsp;and&nbsp;center—one&nbsp;homemade&nbsp;plate&nbsp;at&nbsp;a&nbsp;time. Cooking&nbsp;is&nbsp;how&nbsp;she&nbsp;loves,&nbsp;and&nbsp;she&nbsp;loves&nbsp;hard.&nbsp;Maria&nbsp;brought&nbsp;him&nbsp;back—one&nbsp;homemade&nbsp;plate&nbsp;at&nbsp;a&nbsp;time. And&nbsp;he&nbsp;listened.&nbsp;He&nbsp;learned.&nbsp;He&nbsp;felt&nbsp;it.&nbsp;Not&nbsp;just&nbsp;for&nbsp;himself—but&nbsp;for&nbsp;his&nbsp;music,&nbsp;his&nbsp;teaching,&nbsp;his&nbsp;whole&nbsp;damn&nbsp;purpose. Now&nbsp;he&nbsp;wears&nbsp;it&nbsp;with&nbsp;pride—and&nbsp;she&nbsp;still&nbsp;keeps&nbsp;the&nbsp;plates&nbsp;coming.&nbsp; This&nbsp;wedding&nbsp;isn’t&nbsp;just&nbsp;a&nbsp;ceremony.&nbsp; It’s&nbsp;a&nbsp;celebration&nbsp;of&nbsp;everything&nbsp;they’ve&nbsp;survived,&nbsp;everything&nbsp;they’ve&nbsp;built,&nbsp;and&nbsp;everything&nbsp;they’re&nbsp;about&nbsp;to&nbsp;destroy&nbsp;and&nbsp;rebuild&nbsp;together.
