December of 2021 Nick had made up his mind and started to save for a ring. He set up his elaborate plan that started with buying Maria a trip to Italy as a Christmas present; knowing that during the trip he was going to get down on one knee.

A month before they left for Italy, Nick made up a story to tell Maria about how he had a client meeting in Binghamton one weekend, but sneakily went up to Syracuse instead to ask for Maria’s fathers, blessing. After the tearful but most importantly successful interaction, Nick could focus on the next step; getting the ring to Italy without Maria knowing.

On the first night, overwhelmed by the thought of having to hide the ring during the trip Nick got down on one knee and proposed. It was August 5, 2022 a hot summer day in Rome, and Nick wanted to go catch the sunset before their dinner. He had been in communication with an Italian photographer and videographer who he’d never met before that captured the entire moment. After celebrating and calling their parents they dined at the most romantic restaurant in Rome overlooking the rest of the gorgeous sunset and taking in every moment.

They fell in love with Italy, prancing around the streets of Rome, Positano, Florence and finally to Lake Como. While they were here, dining next to the most breathtaking views, boating on the most gorgeous lake in the world, and most importantly celebrating their love, they knew deep down this was where they were going to get married. Fast forward several months later, Nick and Maria turned their thoughts into reality. Their venue was chosen with the help of their family, so perfect and everything they could have imagined, a venue where John Legend himself got married. Nick and Maria are so excited and looking forward to sharing their special day and love for Italy with all of you.
