Once upon a time in the bustling city of Toronto, there were two childhood pals, who in the years to come, would have the most amazing love story to tell.

The girl arrived to their small catholic elementary school in third grade after she, her mom, and her little sister relocated after her mother’s divorce. The boy started the school a few years earlier in, first grade, after just arriving from Guyana. From grade three to grade eight they were just like two childhood friends, always engaging in friendly competition and sharing inside jokes. Little did they know, the universe had already begun weaving its celestial threads around them.

The girl was outgoing, spirited, and a leader. The boy was quiet and shy, but confident. Somewhere around sixth grade, the girl (like so many girls her age) began declaring her fanciful affinity for the boy. It fell on deaf ears. The boy was simply too shy, and too disinterested to reciprocate.

In 1987, when the two were in grade 8, the girl’s family packed up and relocated to the big apple NYC, thus leaving the boy behind in Toronto. The two embarked on their separate lives in different countries-never expecting their paths to cross again. However, the universe’s mysterious magnetic pull would soon start revealing itself in their lives every seven years or so the two would be pulled back together.

Like the first time they randomly bumped into each other in 1994. The girl had now blossomed into a successful student and fashion model, while the boy was carving out his path as a student athlete. One ordinary day at Fulton Street Mall in downtown Brooklyn, while the boy was visiting family in NYC fate intervened, and the two childhood friends crossed paths once more. The boy, overwhelmed by the girl’s beauty and grace was tongue tied and stumbled for words. Although the boy was admittedly, athletic and handsome, the girl was unimpressed. Thus, there were no fireworks, no romantic gestures, no numbers exchanged-just two friends briefly catching up on a busy sidewalk, completely unaware that a magnetic force between them had begun.

The two continued to live their separate lives, still in two different countries. At the onset of social media the boy began casually looking for the girl and was unsuccessful for a number of years. Success came in 2010 when the boy finally found the girl on Facebook and thus exchanged email stories of their missing years. She, now a divorced, resilient, single mother with a daughter. He, a proud father of three boys and a dedicated dad coach.

Still, there was no hint of romantic anything between them, just two old elementary school classmates briefly sharing the ebbs and flows of life‘s unpredictable currents.

Seven years later in 2017, at an impromptu reunion, a dozen elementary school friends got together when they heard the girl was going to be back in Toronto. The boy made sure to be in attendance. The girl was actually visiting with a purpose. She was seeking to repair her estranged relationship with her Dad. At the reunion the boy dropped a bombshell confession to the girl while in the presence of her 11-year-old daughter. He shared that he had harboured a secret crush on her for all those years in elementary school. The girl was very surprised and so was her daughter. The girl thanked the boy for his candor, and returned to NYC not to speak again for the next few years.

The boy promised the girl that the next time he was in NYC he would reach out. Five years later he did. She ignored him, so he tried again.

As the boy and girl reunited, they began to finally realize and see the cosmic forces that had been pulling them together all along. Their love story, which had been, being written in the stars for decades, finally began to unfold before them.

After two years of shared laughter, love, more love, and tears-the boy and the girl made a vow to marry on September 2, 2024 and finally embrace their enchanted celestial magnetism forevermore (seven years to the day since that fateful school reunion and a boy’s innocent childhood confession)
