Maria and John's journey started with a simple message sent in the digital world. After back to back messages John needed to move up to the next step TALKING ON THE PHONE. After finding out Maria enjoyed playing MARIO KART, he asked Maria to race against him.

After countless Mario Kart races and late-night phone calls, Maria and John finally met in person on April 29th, 2022. Their connection was instant, fueled by their similar backgrounds, shared experiences, and even having attended the SAME concerts a decade before meeting. They were like peanut butter and jelly.

Two years later, John decided to buy an engagement ring for Maria and ask the BIG QUESTION. He initially planned to propose in New York City on May 8th, 2024, three months after purchasing the ring. However, he quickly realized waiting that long was too difficult.

Just one month after buying the ring, John chose to propose on St. Patrick's Day, March 17th, 2024. He planned a special day, starting with breakfast at their favorite local Mexican restaurant, Velarde's in East LA. They then strolled around Chinatown, enjoyed the fresh air, and played pinball and arcade games at Button Mash, a local barcade in Echo Park. Despite Maria's claims of not being good at pinball, she loved playing.

Their final stop was Echo Park Lake, where John planned to propose on a pedal boat. He surprised Maria by inviting their friends, Rosa and Brian, to join them on the boat. After some time pedaling, John decided it was time. He and Maria switched places with Brian and Rosa, and John waited for the perfect moment. Kneeling on one knee, he delivered his speech, leaving Maria momentarily frozen. John prompted, "You're supposed to say YES or NO," and she, of course, said "YES!!!"
