<p>Haven’t heard our story yet? It’s a good one!<br>It started almost 20 years ago… Mariah and Jake went to Clayton Middle School together. Mariah was a super cool 8th grader and Jake was an eager 7th grader who followed Mariah everywhere! Luckily for Jake, Mariah didn’t shoo him off, but welcomed his friendship, hanging out and before and after school, between classes and during lunch breaks. Almost daily, Jake would confess his love for Mariah and ask for her to be his girlfriend where Mariah would just give the short little guy a pat on the head and kindly tell him no and tell him to get to class. Jake for some reason, was in love with his “middle school bully” and kept asking Mariah every day until she went off to high school. Mariah and Jake then lost touch with going to different high schools, colleges, Jake moving to Boise and simply somehow not running into other in Reno (which seems impossible in the biggest little city in the world). Behind the scenes 18 years later little did they know one of their mutual friends had a plan up his sleeve. In March of 2023, both Mariah and Jake were in Scottsdale, AZ for Spring Training baseball at the same time. Jake’s friend Anthony saw on social media that they were both there and told Jake. Somehow, it took years, but Jake didn’t seem interested in meeting up with his “middle school bully” who he was once in love with. Anthony didn’t give up hope though and kept trying for Mariah and Jake to meet because he knew from the get go that they would be a perfect match. In January of 2024 Mariah went out one night in midtown to try and organically meet someone. No, that night she didn’t run into Jake, but Anthony. Anthony questioned why Mariah was out that night alone and her response was simply and sarcastically “to try and find someone and not die alone.” Anthony gave it another shot. He said “what about you and Jake? You both would be perfect together.” Mariah laughed and questioned “Jake Pomi? From middle school?” Anthony eagerly said he’s been trying to hook us up for almost a year because he could see us hitting it off. By that point, Mariah had gone on about four consecutively terrible first dates and figured “why not, can’t be worse than the others.” Still skeptical, she said yes to letting Anthony play Cupid. Anthony reached out to Jake and sent a picture of Mariah and Anthony together on that Friday night in midtown. Jake reached out days later, obviously to not seem too eager and play it cool. Immediately they picked up their friendship and banter over text talking about the past and catching up on life. After a few days of texting Jake took Mariah on a date. Being the gentleman that Jake grew up to be, he offered to pick Mariah up since she said she lived in midtown which was also where Jake lived. Come to find out Jake and Mariah had been living 4 blocks away from each other for over a year and never saw each other. Mariah walked her dog Bella past Jake’s “hobbit hole” almost daily and never ran into him. That night Mariah and Jake went to dinner and shut the restaurant down. Jake had clearly fallen in love with his “middle school bully” all over again. Mariah who didn’t want to admit it, fell in love with Jake from middle school, who now was too tall to pat on his head, but was someone Mariah could see herself with for the rest of her life. From there, the rest was history. Jake asked Mariah out about 30 times in middle school, but finally almost 20 years later she said yes. After dating almost a year later he asked her to marry her where again Mariah happily said yes to the boy who loved her in middle school.</p>
