Mariana and Jon Mark met in the spring of their sophomore year at Texas A&amp;M University through their dear friend, Reese Thompson. Having both been organizationally involved at A&amp;M and running in similar circles, they began hearing more about each other. Mariana likes to say she decided to take the first step and ask Jon Mark to her formal event. Jon Mark likes to think he initiated the connection by strategically asking Mariana’s friends about her. Nevertheless, following their first date party together, Jon Mark asked Mariana on a date. They spent the whole night talking about family, faith, traveling, music, and more. They had a wonderful time, and soon after, Jon Mark asked Mariana out on another date, which quickly led to another, and another. Before they knew it, summer had arrived. Although they decided to stay in touch, both had busy summers living in different cities across Texas. It wasn’t until August 31, 2022, when school started back up in College Station, that the couple officially began dating. After four exciting months of dating in College Station, Mariana prepared to study abroad in Madrid, Spain for the spring semester of her junior year. Through many conversations, the couple decided they wanted to continue their relationship long distance. Those four months apart became a pivotal point in their relationship. It was during this time that they learned the importance of communication, and quality time over quantity of time. They learned how to lean on the Lord above all else. Dating overseas was not easy, but it was there that they built a strong foundation of faith, trust, and understanding. Towards the end of her semester abroad, Jon Mark flew to Spain to visit Mariana for a few days, marking the beginning of what would become a relationship full of travel and adventure. Mariana returned to Texas at the end of May 2023. However, long distance was far from over. On the day she came home, Jon Mark left for a summer internship in Washington, D.C. Although the seven-hour time difference was behind them, the couple continued to learn patience and resilience while also growing personally and independently. That summer, Mariana visited Jon Mark in D.C., where they explored different neighborhoods, went sightseeing, attended a concert, and of course, enjoyed amazing food. At last, senior year arrived, giving the couple the chance to spend more than four months together in the same place. Knowing they would likely return to long distance after graduation, and because Mariana had accepted a job with Dell in Austin and Jon Mark planned to move back to D.C., they made the most of their final year at Texas A&amp;M. They spent lots of time with friends, watched countless movies, went to concerts and organizational events, experienced all the A&amp;M traditions, and spent precious time with family. After graduation, Mariana moved to Austin while Jon Mark moved back to Washington D.C., and they have continued long distance ever since. Over the past year and a half, they have taken many flights to see each other and spent countless hours on FaceTime while cherishing every moment they get to spend together. Whenever they are together, they love spending time with family and friends, traveling, concerts, food, coffee dates and everything in-between. On May 26, 2025, Jon Mark proposed to Mariana in Florence, Italy while they were visiting her sister, Isabella, during her study abroad in Edinburgh, Scotland. Now, after more than three years of dating and over a year and a half of long distance, the couple is thrilled to be in the same city and to begin building their lives together. After so much time apart, they can’t wait to enjoy the simplest parts of life together. They are especially excited to celebrate their marriage with all of their loved ones in the beautiful city of San Miguel de Allende. With grateful hearts for the time, people, and memories the Lord has given them, they look forward eagerly to creating their next adventure together, forever.
