Tips for Chile

If you go to a restaurant

- It is ok to raise your hand to call the waiter, otherwise they will not come to your table.

- The standard tip is 10%.

Transportation options within the city

- Always prefer uber and cabify, they are cheap and safe.

- Other good option is the subway, easy and cheap.

- Do not take taxis, they typically charge more than what is due.


Even though Chile is a safe and peaceful country try and avoid

- Using your cell phone too much while walking on the street.

- Leaving your cell phone on the table while eating in a restaurant.

- We recommend you not to visit the Central Market.

- We recommend you not to visit Central Station.

If you rent a car

- You most likely will need at International Driving Permit to rent a car. They are available at AAA for $25.

- When you get gas there will be an attendant who will fill your tank and you should tip them. One dollar (~1.000 Chilean pesos) is enough.

- You can only turn left when the green arrow is showing at the traffic light.

- You can only turn right on a red light if the sign says so. Otherwise it is prohibited.
