Description: This is the crown jewel of Hartford. Mark Twain lived here from 1874 to 1891 and wrote Tom Sawyer, Huckleberry Finn, and A Connecticut Yankee in this house. The guided tour is sharp, dramatic, and full of fascinating details about Twain's troubled family life and his dry, acidic wit. The house itself is a Gothic Revival stunner — copper trim, dark wood, Tiffany-designed interiors.
Hot tip: Take the full Living History Tour if available — it includes first-person interpreters in period dress.
Important note: Book early for Twain House tours — June gets packed with school field trips and tourists.
