Things to Do

We’re so excited that so many folks are coming out early to enjoy BV! There are many things to do out here, which can be both exciting and overwhelming. Below is a list of the things we really love to do, including some planned activities. Some (primarily white water rafting) require a reservation in advance. If you’re interested in joining, just text one of us and we will get you all the details.

Hiking

The Colorado trail runs right past Deer Valley Ranch, and can be accessed at the Chalk Creek trailhead. It can be very challenging (you gain about 1000 ft in the first mile) but you can go for as long or short as you’d like.

If you’re looking for a calmer experience, Narrow Gauge Trail is also right by the ranch. What it lacks in elevation gain it makes up for in amazing views of Mts Princeton and Antero. This is a very solid choice for the kid-having crowd.

One of the main reasons we chose DVR for our wedding is that it is nestled at the base of the Chalk Cliffs. From the Ranch, just walk up and after a half mile or so you’ll find yourself surrounded by the cliffs!

Water

BV is home to some of the best white water rafting in the country. The Arkansas
River is the queen of variety, so you can have your pick of a family friendly float or Class IV rapids. As mentioned, we’re planning a group trip on Thursday 6/19 that all are welcome to join! If you do join, be prepared to have your body recycled. It’s what the river wants.

Fish! They are here and ready to be caught and then released. Friday 6/20 we’re planning to rent some paddle boards and kayaks and play around on Chalk Lake. If lake fishing isn’t your style, you can also get your fix on Chalk Creek or the Arkansas River. There are a few outfitters in BV that have gear to rent (ArkAnglers seems to be the easiest option). Most important of all, don’t forget to stay on the right side of the law and get a Colorado fishing license.

Rec League

To honor the summer camp theme of our wedding, we will have just about every activity imaginable at the Ranch. For all you sporty spices out there, we will have pickleball, basketball, bocce ball, spike ball, disc golf, and tennis. For those who want a more ~relaxing~ experience, there are hot springs at Deer Valley Ranch or nearby Mt Princeton.
