If you ask Devin - I met Marisa during a party my twin brother Gage and I threw in May 2020. Gage and Marisa were friends before I had ever met her. He told me about her as she was en route from her home on the east side of the state, where she was for the summer. I was fresh off the dating scene around five months prior and didn't intend to date anyone anytime soon, but the second Marisa walked through the door, I turned to Gage and told him, "I'm going to date her." It may have been how pretty she was (and still is), but I had a gut feeling she was going to be amazing, and I'm glad I listened. Marisa and I spent the evening with our friends and got to know one another a little bit. The next day, she and I and a few friends visited a trail to go for a walk in West Olive, MI. Our hangovers were brutal, but it didn't stop me from teaching her how to swing dance in the woods. Over the next few months, we took things slow, hoping to grow closer before we jumped into anything. She had to go back home to the east side for the rest of the summer, but after many Facetime calls full of laughter and a hint of the future, I met her family a few months later in August and asked her to be mine the same evening. Through the hardship of the pandemic and college, Marisa loved me when I had very little to my name and never once faulted me in her support of me and my goals. I couldn't imagine having anyone else by my side as we grow and learn daily. If you ask Marisa - It all began at a party that Devin and his brother hosted a few years ago. Earlier in the evening, we turned a classic Jenga game into a drinking challenge, each block with a fun prompt. Everyone was laughing, enjoying the night, but I couldn’t help but notice one guy in particular. To my surprise, it seemed like he noticed me too. Devin approached me, holding a Jenga block that said, “Give a kiss.” Little did I know, he’d spent the last five minutes searching for that very block.The next day, we went on an adventure to West Olive. We walked along the trails, climbed trees, and even tried to dance together on a deck overlooking the water. I was so nervous, but there was something undeniably special about him, and I was determined not to let myself mess it up.After I returned to the east side of the state, despite the distance, our connection only deepened. We spent months FaceTiming, laughing for hours, and learning everything we could about each other. He even made the long drive from Grand Rapids to Plymouth just to meet my family for dinner. That night, he asked me to be his girlfriend, and I couldn’t believe how certain I felt. My heart raced with excitement and a sense of certainty that I had never experienced before. I knew, without a doubt, that this man was meant to be in my life forever.Through it all, Devin has loved me in ways I never thought possible. He’s accepted me fully, even embracing my horse girl lifestyle, which I know isn’t always the easiest thing to do. I am so incredibly grateful for him and for the love he’s shown me. I couldn’t imagine anyone else by my side for the rest of my life.
