How We Met (& a lil' bit of our story!):
Michael and I were both on a riding trip with our own groups of friends in Pismo, and on my second day there, one of the girls from my camp told me to go over to the camp next to us with her. That there were “these cool people going on a ride and they have seats open for us”. Now, I’m a safe, sane person, so I asked all the questions making sure there were no serial killers in their midst, and since she had been over there all the day before and all that morning, I decided she was the guinea pig, and it was safe enough. I could leave her behind, run back over here, and lock myself in a truck if I needed to (joking, joking!). So we go over there and we’re sitting around the campfire while everyone is getting ready. And all of a sudden I look up and see this tall, handsome guy walking over to me with a sandwich in one hand, and a bloody mary in the other. So this guy comes and sits down next to me, introduces himself, and we immediately hit it off. We spent the whole day hanging out with everyone, laughing and talking smack to each other (its one of our favorite pastimes to this day!). Michael was driving us around the dunes in Pismo in the Rzr, putting up with me being an absolute menace. And it was just so easy to be around him, like I had known him for ever. Then the next day after we left, I got his number from the girl from my camp. We texted back and forth for a few weeks, and then we decided to hang out again to see if we still found it as easy and fun to hang out with each other. And let me tell you, it was. We talked and learned so much about each other, we laughed so much my abs hurt on Monday. It was just…perfect. We made the two hour (sometimes three depending on how bad the traffic was!) drive back and forth from Camarillo to Buena Park every weekend, and often he’d drive down in the middle of the week too. It was a LOT of driving, but we did it because any moment we spent together was just the best. Michael and I bought our first trailer, moved me in with him, went on our first Glamis trip together, and started on our adventures. So much time spent out on the boat, and in the Can-Am, some road trips. And then when the Coleman’s family dog Cali passed away suddenly, Michael and I decided to expand our little unit, and brought Kimber home. And what an amazing adventure that has been! She loves going to the river and the lake to go out on the boat and to go swimming, she loves to go out to the desert with us, she loves road trips and just being anywhere with us in general. She’s our little baby!
How he Popped The Question:
Michael and I are always on the go in the summertime, especially going to the river/lake with our friends. And I’m also very oblivious/gullible. Things that aren’t directly told to me, just go right over my head. So for my 23rd birthday when he rented an Airbnb in Havasu, I didn’t think anything of the fact that he was gathering our friends and seemed to be making a little bit bigger of a deal than normal. So we get there, we’re having a great time the first night, its an absolute blast. If anything Michael seems a little bit preoccupied. Then the next day, there we were, out on the boat, hanging out. Catching some sun, relaxing. And Michael says we’re going to take Brittany and Mike on a little boat ride “since they’re leaving tomorrow and won’t get to be out on the water with us tomorrow”. So we tell the rest of our friends we’ll be right back, and they’re all giving us huge smiles and waving, and I’m thinking SOMETHING is up, but not thinking much of it. So we leave, and all of a sudden Michael stops in the middle of the lake and tells everyone they can jump in. So me, being oblivious in this moment, jump off the back of the boat and start swimming around like I’m a mermaid or something. But no one else jumps in, so, I get out. I’m not going to be the only one swimming in the water like a weirdo you know?? So I get up on the swim step and Michael comes walking over to me, and Shawnie tells us to take a picture, while I’m awkwardly dancing around thinking I’m Beyonce or something, I don’t know. And so I pose. And then before I even know what’s happening, Michael is dropping down on one knee, making me cry, and asking me to marry him. And, you guessed it, I said YES!! I can't wait to be Mrs. Coleman!!
