John and Marisol’s story began when they both met each other at TopGolf’s hiring event back in 2019. After getting hired together and going through training, life went on. Marisol and John shared great moments together like at the Topgolf Associate Party in 2019 with friends and comforted each other through some pretty dramatic experiences that occurred later in 2020. All the while becoming really great friends and drawing closer together. Then the day came in July 2020, that would change both of them for the rest of their lives. John was asked a question by one of his really great and closest friends, Jared Grubbs (a groomsmen and best friend of the bride.) Jared asked John, “Is there anyone at TopGolf that you would want to give a chance and possibly date?” John responded with, “The only person I would really want to date at TopGolf would be Marisol. She is really cool, beautiful and I think she is just an amazing woman to be around.” Jared then made one of his most famous faces that led John to question why he asked the question, and all Jared would say over and over again was, “I would shoot your shot if I were you.” What John hadn’t known was that Jared had talked to Marisol about the same thing and she gave the same answer, so in reality Jared has masterminded the beginning of the relationship (seriously, thank you Jared, we owe you big time!!) Weeks following John asked Marisol to get pizookies from BJ’s Brewhouse and Restaurant and they hung out for what seemed like hours. After what had been the first time of the two hanging out, John had blown up Jared’s phone questioning him about “Have you talked to Marisol?”, “Did she like hanging out me?”, etc. Some more weeks followed and during the whole time John and Marisol didn’t stop taking or hanging out with each other. Whether it was on snapchat, texting, on the phone, and taking trips with friends to Orlando. The two were inseparable and soon started to like each other more than friends. John then asked Marisol on their first date, September 21, 2020. They went to Cantina Louie because John knew that was one of Marisol’s favorite Mexican Restaurants. They were having a fantastic time and John thought it would be only fitting to tell Jared that the date was going smoothly so he facetimed him when Marisol went to the bathroom, but John almost got caught when Marisol returned, and his face turned bright red from embarrassment. Months go on and they go on many dates like to the Night of Lights in St. Augustine, Universal, and go-kart racing! December 13, 2020, rolls around and John takes Marisol to see “Deck the Chairs” because he wanted her to see all the Christmas lights she could see before she left for Puerto Rico. After looking at all the beautiful lights conveniently located on lifeguard chairs and dancing in front of the amphitheater to Christmas music, John askes Marisol to walk on the beach. After walking a little bit, John and Marisol sat down to admire the stars and then asked her to be his girlfriend. (She said yes of course!)
Fast forward two and a half years later, John begins to formulate a plan on how to ask Marisol to be his partner in crime for the rest of his life. He saw the perfect opportunity to ask Mr. Mickey (Marisol’s dad) when he went down to South Florida for a bachelor trip. He meet Marisol’s parents over breakfast and when they were about to split ways, he began to tell them how he knew Marisol was the one he wanted to spend the rest of his life. Her parents and himself, but he won’t admit it, started to tear up as they said yes, and he got the permission to marry Marisol. Almost immediately after John created a group chat with some of her closest friends and the planning begun. Finally, after 6 months of waiting and planning the day finally came and it was the perfect setup. With Marisol graduating from the University of North Florida with her master’s degree in athletic training the morning before John thought it was the best time to propose the next day.
The weather turned out to be really gloomy, but nothing was going to stand in the way of this event. Marisol and John had gotten breakfast with her parents, his mother, and Joseph C (a groomsmen) that morning and Marisol started to get hints that something was up just by the way John was interacting with people. The day had only gotten started, and John was more nervous than taking a meeting your girlfriend’s father for the first time. The day goes on and we are about two hours from the proposal. Marisol and John then proceed to get ready for the “date” that night. After getting ready John and Marisol hop in the car and head to a beach that they often visited with friends for beach days. What she didn’t know was that her parents, John’s parents, his brother, her two closest friends, and photographer were all waiting there for her! As they get on the beach, John leads them to a picnic basket that Marisol’s two best friends had set up for them. Amongst the cold drizzle and weather that was going on, the two sat down and started to enjoy the picnic on the beach. Out of nowhere, Bri walked up and greeted the couple. Bri had the ring and love letters that John had written to Marisol in the months of them dating. What Marisol didn’t know was each letter had a corresponding alphabetical letter on the top of the page that spelled out “Will you marry me?” After John was given the ring and Marisol the letters, she began to read them and tear up. Unfortunately, the wind that day wanted to play some jokes and some of the letters started to fly in the wind which promptly led to a wild goose chase. After retrieving all the letters, Marisol reads the last letter which told her to look at all the letters again and read the top. When John saw that she read the last letter, he struggled to get the ring out of his pants pocket and trying not to cry at the same time (so he cracked jokes till the ring came out.) He then got down on one knee and asked Marisol to be his best friend, lover, and adventure partner for life. The day then promptly was filled with celebration from everyone there and later at the party he had set up for her as well!
