Our Wedding

Technically our story begins December 11, 2021. A mutual friend (unbeknownst to us at the time) (shoutout Mary!) hosted a Christmas party. We were both in attendance but did not speak to each other. I (Marissa) was late as usual and looking back, I did not see nor remember Jose even being there. Jose saw me, however, wasn't interested at the time so he didn't introduce himself. His friend David did. David told me he was hosting a bible study, and sent me an invite a few times but I never went because I didn't know him super well and was wondering "who all gone be there?" IYKYK Fast forward about 6 months to June 3, 2022. Another mutual friend (also unbeknownst to us at the time) (shoutout Miranda!) hosted a game night. David was there (remember him?). At the game night, we had a long spiritual conversation and my friendship with them deepened. David invited me again to his bible study lol but this time I felt more comfortable to go after knowing Miranda was also attending this bible study. Plus, I felt obligated at this point. The next week, I go to the bible study. Miranda didn't even show up (she was "sick" lol). I liked it, so the following week, I planned to go again. I remember I had gotten off of work late but luckily the bible study was live streamed, so I logged on. It was at Miranda's house that week and she was speaking on "singleness." Conveniently enough when I logged into the livestream, the camera was positioned directly in front of Jose (I didn't know he was Jose at the time lol) and I basically had to stare directly at him for an hour. He was sitting on the couch next to a lady who I just assumed to be his wife lol (she wasn't obviously). I found out later he had actually invited her to the bible study (scandalous!). Anyways, Miranda encouraged me to come to the next bible study as they were speaking about marriage. I went (late again as usual). Jose says when I came in, he recognized me "that girl from Mary's Christmas party" and saw me in a "new light" (whatever that means, you'll have to ask him lol) so he decided to speak to me this time around. But he didn't do so at the bible study, it was after the bible study some of us including Miranda and David went to El Guerro Canelo for some food. It was in line, as I was deciding between ordering tacos or a quesadilla, Jose introduced himself to me and mentioned I kept popping up on his Facebook mutual friends. I laughed, introduced myself, and ordered my food. We didn't talk the rest of the night hahaha but God had other plans that night... As we left the restaurant and were saying our goodbyes in the parking lot, a homeless women approached us. She was pregnant and struggling so we prayed for her and gave her some resources to take care of her new baby. For some reason, Miranda thought it was a good idea to walk the woman to the Circle K which was about a block away...the rest of us refused to let Miranda wander off into the night alone, so we went with. It was quite the adventure. After nearly breaking up a fight and getting ambushed in a homeless camp, Jose and I made small talk as we waited off to the side for Miranda to order food for the homeless woman. This is where I found out Jose was a cop and I remember David and I making jokes after Jose said he didn't feel safe, yet he was the one supposed to be protecting us lol After we walked back to El Guerro Canelo, it was probably around midnight, but we all continued to share stories and laugh in the parking lot not wanting to go home. Since some of the guys in our group had trucks, we decided to park them in a circle and all sit in the beds of the trucks. We stayed out until 2am. A few days later, Jose added me on Facebook. After exchanging a few likes and comments, we chatted in messenger and eventually exchanged numbers. We went to bible study and decided to sit next to each other. We had another late night restaurant adventure with our friend group. This time at In n Out Burger (but that's a story for another time). After realizing we both enjoyed working out, Jose asked me to go to the gym with him (very romantic first date). We went to Guadalajara Grill after and ate and talked and from that moment sometime in July 2022 we pretty much talked daily. We were unofficially dating until February 14, 2023 when Jose officially asked me to be his girlfriend while sitting at the bar at Texas Roadhouse because he forgot to make a reservation for a table not realizing every restaurant on Valentines Day would be packed lol his sweet words were something like "so are you my girlfriend or what?" lol Fast forward to June 26, 2025. We are now getting married the same month that we met, which was "coincidently" at a bible study focused on the topic of marriage this very same week only 3 years ago.

If you are traveling from out of town, or don't want to make the drive back to Tucson after our wedding. These are the hotels the venue suggested. We do not have hotel blocks. There are also many beautiful Airbnbs in the Phoenix area as well.
