Nate and I met through mutual friends during our senior year of high school. Nate soon left to serve a mission in the Philippines. Just one week into his time at the MTC, I decided to send a message his way, hoping maybe, just maybe, we could go on a date when he returned home. (Spoiler alert: It was a good idea.)
Our first official date happened at Nate’s family cabin in Beaver, Utah — the same place where a lot of meaningful moments would take place later on! Nate made burgers, and we spent HOURS talking outside under the stars. It was simple, genuine, and unforgettable.
Hers: The moment I knew Nate was the one happened during a bunny hunting trip. I watched how Nate treated his siblings: the way he spoke to them, how they looked up to him, and the love he showed so naturally. In that moment, I knew this was someone I wanted in my life for time and all eternity. I also love everything about Nate’s personality — especially his laugh and the close bond he shares with his family.
His: Even from halfway around the world, Ris and I shared a special connection. Our conversations always felt effortless—talking to her came so naturally, like we’d known each other forever. The more time we spent together, the more I admired the incredible woman she is. Ris is the most selfless person I’ve ever met. She consistently puts others’ needs above her own and throws her whole heart into everything she does. On top of that, she’s absolutely beautiful—inside and out. Marissa is everything I’ve ever hoped for in an eternal companion—and so much more than I ever imagined possible.
I’ll never forget one night when we were out to dinner. The table had paper on it for doodling. As we laughed and sketched, I looked at Ris and thought to myself, “I want to marry this girl.” But at the time, I didn’t know if she felt the same way. Just then, as if she had read my mind, she wrote “Future Husband” on the paper and drew an arrow pointing at me. From that moment on, I’ve never had a doubt.
On April 13th, 2025, Nate proposed at the very same family cabin where their story truly began. The room was decorated with a table full of photos from throughout their relationship, along with a beautiful bouquet of red roses and baby’s breath. When Nate got down on one knee, it took me a few seconds to fully process what was happening — but of course, the answer was an excited YES!
Together, we love binge-watching Criminal Minds, hot tubbing, cooking, and most of all, just spending quality time side by side. Whether it’s a big adventure or a cozy night in, it’s always better when they’re together.
Now, we are counting down the days until they get to share the same last name and come home to their best friend — every single day, and can’t wait to share such a special day with all of our favorite people!!!
