Kyle - So there I was, sitting alone in the corner of a bustling coffee shop, engulfed in the whir of grinders and the faint hum of indie folk music. A small sea of customers sat throughout, chatting over their brews and taking in the midday sun that poured in through wall-to-wall windows. My mind drifted casually among thoughts of the day; their specifics I can’t recall.

With a rush of air, the coffee shop doors burst open. The clientele and staff alike, myself included, turned toward the door, shielding our eyes from the light pouring through the double doorway. As my eyes adjusted, a figure emerged. She was tall, but not overly so; brunette, and every bit the image of Aphrodite.

I like to think that my lower jaw remained in place. That is almost certainly not the case. As I sat there in awe, the figure in the door, with full command of the room, turned in my direction.

She smiled. My heart paused.

She stepped in my direction. My heart restarted with a flurry.

She approached my table. My heart beat faster still.

”Hi, I’m Marissa.”
