On February 10th, 2021 - with the help of Bumble - Maritza and Jordan began chatting. After a few days of non-stop texting and a video call later, they planned a hike for their first date. Little did they both realize that day was also Valentine's day.
As she drove nervously to Alum Rock Park, running scenarios through her mind how the afternoon may turn out, he was stressing out if it was presumptuous to have a first date on Valentine's. With masks on, they walked and talked on and off the hiking trails. Adventurously, they decided to cross a shallow creek, stepping on slippery rocks. Jordan’s favorite moment was when Maritza slipped on the rock and ended up knee deep in the cold water. Instead of being upset, she began to laugh.
After dinner and a abrupt detour to feed Jordan's roommate's guinea pigs, they visited Communication Hill - which overlooks the city lights at night - and walked hand in hand learning about each other. As the night air grew colder they knew it was time to say their goodbyes. With butterflies in their stomachs, they shared their first kiss and said good night.
Two and a half lovely years later…
After asking for Maritza’s parents' blessing and being gifted his mothers ring, Jordan set proposal plans in motion with the help of Maritza's sisters to orchestrate a night they will never forget. On Friday, November 3rd 2023, after Jordan took Maritza to dinner, he told her they had one more stop for the evening. It was their return to Communication Hill. With a bouquet of flowers in hand and a ring box in his pocket, Jordan asked Maritza if she would marry him.
