The Bodrum Peninsula consists of several different little "villages" or areas, each with its unique charm. The whole peninsula is about 32km (20 miles) wide, and takes about 45-60 minutes by car to get to one side from the other. This region is packed with hotels providing for all wants and needs, and there are also Airbnbs if you want to stay somewhere more off the beaten track.

Here is some info about the different areas:

Golturkbuku:

This is where the wedding venu (Selvi Beach Hotel) is located. Golturkbuku consists of two wonderful coves, namely Golkoy and Turkbuku. Golkoy is a relatively quieter cove reflecting the green of olive, tangerine and pine trees on the turquoise sea. However, the cove of Turkbuku is much busier with elegant beach clubs, restaurants, and hotels. It also has very attractive nightlife options.

Bardakci:

It is nearly in Bodrum town center. The cove is famous for its beautiful sea and springs.

Gumbet:

Walking distance to Bodrum, about 3km away. One can enjoy the silent peaceful daytime while relaxing at the beautiful beaches and enjoying the lovely sea and sun, while at night time, with its hundreds of bars and restaurants, it offers very attractive and entertaining nightlife.

Adabogazi (Aquarium):

It is located at the west end of Gumbet’s peninsula, also called Aquarium due to its literally crystal clear waters. You can see the seafloor at a depth of 30m with the naked eye. This is a popular stop for the day boats from Bitez.

Bitez:

It is 10km from Bodrum, and is one of the best coves on the Bodrum peninsula. It has long sandy beaches where you can relax between the harmony of green and blue. Taking a walk in the very narrow roads (locally called Irme) between the tangerine orchards and olive groves will leave unforgettable memories for you. Bitez, together with Alacati in , is one of the best wind surfing areas in the world. You can experience all kinds of sports in the Bitez cove.

Torba:

A very charming and lovely place, located 10km from Bodrum. You can take boats from Torba to Didim , and to the ancient sites Miletos and Priene .

Ortakent:

It is at the west side of Bodrum peninsula, 14km from Bodrum, and is famous for its citrus orchards. Through a narrow road from the village center, you can reach Ortakent’s seaside and long beach.

Akyarlar:

It is 15km from Bodrum. Akyarlar cove has lovely beaches and clear waters.

Bagla:

Situated 15km from Bodrum, it has a perfect beach and a very convenient camping site.

If you are flying to Bodrum, you will have to land at the Milas-Bodrum Airport (BJV). To get from the aiport to where you want to go, please see the options below.

If you are flying to Turkey from a different country, please pay attention to the following, very important details:

-You will have a connecting flight in Istanbul, where there are two airports: Istanbul Airport (IST, currently the main airport) and Sabiha Gokcen International Airport (SAW, secondary but there are flights still).

-The two airports are at the two different ends of Istanbul, and are hours away from each other

-MAKE SURE YOUR CONNECTING FLIGHT LEAVES FROM THE SAME AIRPORT YOU LAND ON

-Also pay attention to this if you are buying tickets separately to Turkey and within Turkey

How to get around in the area?

Part of the reason this region of Turkey is so beautiful is that there are no major cities nearby. One semi-inconvenient consequence of this is the lack of easy to use public transportation. The good thing is, many people have managed to still find their way around and have fun, and you will too!

Here are some alternatives for transportation for your stays:

· The good old American way: GET A CAR!

· Taxi

o Regular taxis are the most common type of taxi service in Bodrum. They are readily available throughout the city and can be easily hailed on the streets or found at designated taxi stands. These taxis are usually yellow and have a taxi sign on their roof. They are equipped with meters that calculate the fare based on distance and time. Regular taxis offer a private transportation experience and are suitable for individuals, couples, and small groups.

o Regular taxis can be found in popular areas such as airports, bus stations, hotels, and tourist attractions. They are also widely available in the city center and can be hailed from the roadside. Bodrum has a decent number of taxis, so you shouldn’t have trouble finding one, especially during peak hours.

o To ensure a hassle-free experience, it’s advisable to locate taxi stands in Bodrum. These designated areas are marked with signs and are strategically placed in high-traffic locations. When you see a taxi stand, simply walk up to it and wait for the next available taxi. Additionally, you can easily hail a taxi from the roadside by raising your hand and signaling for a cab to stop.

· Dolmus Taxi

o In addition to regular taxis, Bodrum offers another unique transportation option called dolmus taxis. Dolmus, meaning “filled up” in Turkish, is a shared taxi that follows a fixed route and picks up multiple passengers along the way. Dolmus taxis are minivans and usually painted in bright colors for easy identification. This option is more affordable compared to regular taxis and is commonly used by locals and budget-conscious travelers.

o Dolmus taxis operate on specific routes, connecting different neighborhoods and popular destinations in Bodrum. They have designated stops where passengers can board and disembark. These taxis fill up quickly as passengers are picked up along the route, so be prepared to share the ride with other travelers. Dolmus taxis offer a unique opportunity to interact with locals and experience a sense of community.

o Dolmus routes cover a wide range of destinations, including beaches, markets, and main squares. The fares for dolmus taxis are fixed and usually lower compared to regular taxis. The exact fare depends on the distance traveled, but it’s generally a cost-effective option for short to medium distances within Bodrum. It’s important to note that dolmus taxis may not operate late at night, so consider alternative transportation options if you plan to travel during those hours.
