Mark and James met in 2021 in Sacramento, California while Mark was visiting for paintball practice. Despite both of them having constantly conflicting schedules, once they met they became inseparable. Mark continued to live and work in San Francisco, while James traveled around for various archaeology projects. They split their time between the two cities, and spent a lot of time adventuring across the state and country. As they grew closer, they also bonded deeply with their close friends in Sacramento and San Francisco.

In January, 2022 they moved in together in Sacramento while Mark commuted to continue working at USCF. The following March, Mark bought a house in the same neighborhood. They adopted two cats, and a few other strays along the way. In October, 2022, Mark officially transferred to UC Davis to continue his career in nursing and be closer to his family, while James continued to advance in Cultural Resources Management.

In 2023, on a vacation to Mark's family home in McCall, Idaho, Mark proposed to James. The following month they traveled to James' hometown of Mackinac Island, where James' family held an engagement party. Over the next year they continued to pursue advancement of their careers, interests, and passions.

As 2024 drew to a close, the two decided that it was time to tie the knot. They have always feel the love and support of their friends and family, and are excited for this new chapter!
