Our Story

It all started with a piece of toast and a game!

Picture of It all started with a piece of toast and a game!

Our story is so fun to tell but it's even better when you hear it from both of our perspectives!

Marshall's POV:

One night I was at dinner with some friends that Evan also knew. While we were eating, she called us. On that phone call, we made plans to have a game night that she called "Toast and Games." (It's called that because we played games and ate homemade bread.) It took a couple of attempts for me to finally go to something she invited me to. When I got to the game night, I immediately saw how fun and charming Evan was and knew that she was someone that needed to be in my life. The problem was that she wasn’t available.

Evan's POV:

The day I met Marshall, he dropped a slice of my newly made bread in the sink. Naturally, I posted about it. That day, my mom and sister, Bella, asked me why I wasn’t dating him. We had mutual friends, and I only planned this game night to try to help him find a girlfriend. Little did I know, I would end up being that girlfriend. Toast and Games was so fun, and getting to know Marshall was awesome. We instantly hit it off, and a friendship began to form. A couple weeks later, he texted me that he was going to Dubai on a work trip. The crazy thing about that was that when I was growing up, one of my most regular prayers was that the man I would end up with would experience Dubai before he ever dated me. Weeks went on, and his trip happened. On March 10th, I randomly called him to find out how the trip went!

Marshall's POV:

Evan used to live in Dubai, so when I found out I was going, my first instinct was to tell her. When she called me to hear about the trip, it was a great conversation. We talked for a long time, and eventually she told me that she was single. We talked on and off over the next couple of days, until one day I received a text. In this text, she told me, “She was intrigued by me." The door was open, and I knew I wanted to walk through it.

Evan's POV:

Our first date was interesting. We went to a Braves game and had Waffle House, which is my favorite place ever. Date two was sushi. I was starting to catch feelings for Marsh but wasn’t sure if he felt the same way until the end of the date, when he kissed me. By the third date, I knew that I was in this for the long haul. Marshall had a way of making me laugh and feeling safe at the same time. After a couple of weeks of dating, I took a job in Florida! I wasn’t sure what this would look like for our budding relationship, but I trusted that Marshall cared for me enough to fight for us.

Marshall's POV:

So we started long distance. We knew early on that we missed each other and that we both wanted to be together. We spent hours on FaceTime, watched constant streams of iMessage games, and did anything we could to make long distance not feel so far away. I visited Jax as much as I could. Evan came to visit me in ATL, too. We made each weekend visit as sweet and full of memories as we could. The only thing that kept me going through long distance was knowing I had plans to move to Florida ASAP!!!

Evan's POV:

ASAP looked like January. Marshall finally moved to Florida, and we went from being 6 hours apart (on a good traffic day) to being neighbors by the beach! The Lord has been so sweet to us with this beautiful life we are starting in Jacksonville. The friends we are making here, the community that has loved us so well, and the ability to walk to the beach gets sweeter and sweeter every day! We are so excited to walk in this engaged and newlywed season at the beach, and we thank the Lord for being so kind and gracious. I always say Marshall is the kindest gift the Lord has ever given me. Loving him is so easy, and I can't wait to do it forever!!!

Marshall's POV:

Life has truly only gotten sweeter since knowing Evan, and I really believe we are only going to go up from here! I thank God every day for his provision and for bringing Evan into my life. Let’s get married.
